This is absolutely not the news that the Cincinnati Reds wanted. Ace Johnny Cueto left game one of the Reds NLDS matchup with the Giants in the first inning after just eight pitches with back spasms. Cueto was immediately replaced in the game by Sam LeCure, and LeCure was replaced after the second inning by Mat Latos, who is scheduled to start game three of the series for the Reds. You have to think that with Latos moving into the game on Saturday that he won't be starting game three on Tuesday, which is when Cueto could pitch if his back spasms fade quickly. At any rate, if the Reds end up winning game one with just eight pitches from Cueto and he's ready to roll on Tuesday, things could be looking up for them in this series. If Cueto's back spasms continue to plague him and he's unable to start on Tuesday, it could be a crucial turn of events in the Reds' quest to win the series. [follow]

Reds Injury News: Johnny Cueto Unlikely for Game Three

After losing Johnny Cueto in the first inning of the Cincinnati Reds' playoff opener, the team hoped Cueto would be able to recover and pitch later in the Division Series if necessary. He still may be able to, but it doesn't look like he will go in Game Three. The Reds will move Homer Bailey up from his scheduled Game Four start to pitch in Game Three. According to...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto left his Game 1 start against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night in the first inning because of back spasms. The Red said he is day to day. The right-hander threw a second strike to No. 2 hitter Marco Scutaro and walked off the mound in obvious pain. A trainer and manager Dusty Baker rushed out to check on him, and the...

Johnny Cueto Injury: Reds Pitcher Listed as Day to Day With Back Spasms

The Cincinnati Reds were dealt a tough blow to start their playoff run last night. After recording one out, Johnny Cueto had to be removed from the game after experiencing back spasms. The All-National League Central Team

The National League Central boasted its fair share of good players in 2012. In fact, there was a time during the season when it appeared the division would produce the MVP, Rookie of the Year, Cy Young winner, and the Manager of the Year, which would have been mighty impressive. But then Joey Votto got injured, the Pirates hit a nosedive, Johnny Cueto went through a...

NLDS Game 1: Mat Latos saves the day

No, no, no! #reds — Jon Cross (@zeldink) October 7, 2012 That was what I tweeted after Johnny Cueto pitched to the second batter of the first inning and left the mound in pain. The game, the series, and the playoffs all felt like they’d ended right then and there. The Reds’s starting rotation without any injuries for the whole season would lose their ace in the first playoff...

Video: Reds talk about game one win

Your browser does not support iframes.   Here's a video clip including Game One post-game comments from the likes of: + Dusty Baker+ Johnny Cueto+ Mat Latos+ Brandon Phillips Best quote of the night? How about this one from BP: "Offense sells tickets and defense wins championships." Cincinnati did a little of both on Saturday.

NLDS Game 2: A good old fashioned butt whipping

Bronson Arroyo dominated the Giants thanks to his complete control of his over 9,000 pitches. After Johnny Cueto went down and Mat Latos saved the bullpen–and the season–from ruin in game 1, Bronson Arroyo started game 2. And I, like many, was happy to have that rested bullpen ready in case Bad-royo showed up. That concern was not necessary. Arroyo was perfect through 4 2/3, retiring...

NLDS Game One – Reds v. Giants

Well, we’re finally here. The Giants’ first postseason game is set to get underway in less than three hours, with Johnny Cueto and Matt Cain — both of whom merit Cy Young consideration — battling it out. Fun fact: since the start of 2011, Johnny Cueto has a 65 ERA-, tied with Clayton Kershaw for the second-best mark in baseball over that span. And Matt Cain, well, he’s...

Reds Lose Ace, Win Game

Eventually, you’re all going to get sick of me talking about how everything that’s going on now is for all intents and purposes unpredictable. Hopefully you aren’t sick of it yet, because Game 1 of the NLDS between the Reds and the Giants went to show why playoff predictions are a complete waste of time. Allow me to review the action:(1)Ace Cincinnati starter Johnny Cueto had...

Cincinnati Reds win their first postseason game in 17 years

[Box Score] [Cincinnati.com] [ESPN SweetSpot] [HardballTalk] [Lance Mcalister] [The Splash] [Giants Extra] Someone pinch me, I’m dreaming. Did my team really just beat Matt Cain on the road out west after losing Johnny Cueto (the ace of the staff) after he recorded just one out? I have to be dreaming. This has happened to me a million times. I wake up, and it all goes away. After...
