Per the Reds' official site, the Reds and Sean Marshall have agreed upon a three year, $16.5 million extension which will keep the left-hander in Cincinnati through 2015.
It seemed crucial that the Reds extend Marshall considering the amount they gave up for him. He came to the Reds in a December trade that sent Travis Wood, Dave Sappelt, and Ronald Torreyes to the Chicago Cubs. He is expected to fill the left-hand setup role in the bullpen this year, as Aroldis Chapman prepares for a move to the starting rotation. Marshall, along with Bill Bray, comprise a formidable left-handed duo for the Reds' bullpen.
In Marshall, the Reds acquired one of the best left-handed relief pitchers in baseball. Last year, he was 6-6 with a 2.26 ERA in 78 games. He struck out 79 while walking just 17 in 75.2 innings.
