Pro Sports Daily:
The Reds bounced back from the weekend disaster St. Louis series with a two-game sweep of the American League West-leading Oakland A's.
They completed the sweep with a 6-5 victory Wednesday afternoon before a crowd of 29746 at Great American Ball Park.
Homer Bailey (7-10) went 5 1/3 innings and allowed five runs on nine hits. He walked one and struck out three.
The Reds took the lead in the first. Shin-Soo Choo led off with a single. Todd Frazier in the No. 2 spot for the first time walked. Joey Votto singled to load the bases. Oakland starter Bartolo Colon got Brandon Phillips to pop to shallow right.
Jay Bruce followed with a high bouncer up the middle that shortstop Jed Lowrie fielded. He flipped to second to force Votto but Bruce beat Alberto Callapso's throw to first. Choo scored to make 1-0.
The A's tied it in the second. Josh Donaldson hit a two-out opposite-field home run. The ball just got over Bruce's glove in right. It was Donaldson's second home ...

The Reds were pretty smart about whom they sent out to Reds Day at King’s Island. The attendees, like Cingrani here, were the ones who performed the best most recently and therefore least likely to draw scorn.Yesterday was Reds day at King’s Island. It seems like every year that they have this event it coincides with the team foundering.
To Reds’ fans’ credit, I only saw...
Get well soon, Corky.OK, it’s just a bruise, but Corky Miller left the game this afternoon after the fifth inning with a right quad contusion. I didn’t see it for myself, but it sounds like it was sustained during a collision at the plate with Alberto Callaspo.
Callaspo was out, by the way. Also, Miller was one of the offensive heroes of today’s game. It’s not relevant...
CINCINNATI Jonathan Broxton isnt a man of few words, he is a man of one or two words. Three words is a compound sentence.
So when the 6-6, 309-pound Broxton, relief pitchers version of The Great Wall of China, spoke in complete sentences Wednesday morning, it was window-pane clear that he is a happy man.
After nearly two months on the disabled list with right elbow problems, Broxton...

The Reds were in need of a solid start by a starting pitcher after the Cardinals battered Cincy's pitching staff over the weekend. Fortunately, Mat Latos delivered one on Tuesday night.
The big right-hander limited the Oakland A's to no runs and four hits over 7.1 innings of work. He struck out three and walked three en route...
The cavalry is nearly here for the slumping Reds.
Cincinnati is set to get a huge shot in the arm by week's end as it expects to get back a trio of ailing players who have been on the disabled list, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Reliever Jonathan Broxton (elbow) is scheduled to come off the disabled list prior to Wednesday's matinee against the...
The Reds expect to have three injured players back by the end of the week, giving them a boost as they try to get back into the thick of the NL Central race.
Cincinnati plans to activate right-handed reliever Jonathan Broxton off the disabled list before the final game of its short series against Oakland on Wednesday. Broxton, the team's primary setup man, has been sidelined...
Baseball America recently asked various major league managers to vote for the best players from each league based on a variety of categories. On Tuesday, the results of those votes were revealed, and a handful of Reds players received recognition.
Joey Votto took home the prize for "Best Strike-Zone Judgement," and finished runner-up to Giants catcher Buster Posey...
CINCINNATI Twitter is a dangerous medium sometimes but every so often there are pearls of truth to be found. Such as from the person who posted Wednesday afternoon: If you dont like Corky you dont like baseball.
That says all you need to know about Corky Miller.
Who knows how much longer Miller will be playing the game but no one should ever doubt his devotion or passion while...
CINCINNATI Baseball is a game where you cant lick your wounds too long. Football gives you a whole week to regurgitate a game the good, the bad and the forgettable but baseball brings the opportunity for quick redemption.
Mondays off day meant the Reds had to wait an extra 24 hours for their shot at putting the memory of the St. Louis Cardinals behind them. It would be easy to...
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Jay Bruce homered and made a run-saving catch on the warning track, and Mat Latos pitched into the eighth inning against Oakland's slumping lineup on Tuesday night, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-1 victory over the Athletics.
The Reds had dropped seven of nine and were coming off what players called an embarrassing weekend against St. Louis -- losses of...

Dan Straily and Bartolo Colon learned the hard way, when Jay Bruce decides he’s hot; it’s best just not to mess with him.
The Reds answered my notion that they were dead with two big wins at home over the Oakland A’s, and today on the radio Marty Brennaman brought up...
CINCINNATI (AP) --Jay Bruce hit a two-run homer and threw out a runner at the plate, helping the Cincinnati Reds beat Bartolo Colon and the Oakland Athletics 6-5 on Wednesday.
Corky Miller added two run-scoring doubles for Cincinnati, which won consecutive games for the first time since July 24 in San Francisco and July 25 in Los Angeles. Bruce also had a run-scoring grounder in...
Oakland A's second baseman Alberto Callaspo was forced to leave Wednesday afternoon's game against the Cincinnati Reds with a contusion to the left forearm.
As reported by Jane Lee of MLB.com,
"Callaspo suffered the injury on a play at the plate in the fourth, when
he was tagged out while trying to score from second on a Stephen Vogt
single. He was replaced...
A sweep of a first-place team gave the Cincinnati Reds a much-needed boost, as might a better performance from Bronson Arroyo on Friday night.
Arroyo looks to bounce back from a miserable outing by taking advantage of a matchup with a San Diego Padres lineup which is struggling and short-handed.
Cincinnati (63-51) had dropped seven of nine before sweeping two games from AL West...
