The Cincinnati Reds hope to be buyers at July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, but general manager Walt Jocketty knows it's going to be tough to get deals done. Cincinnati would like to add a leadoff man, a cleanup hitter and bench help. "I'm not sure of any of it is possible," Jocketty said, "but that's what we're trying to do." With so many teams still in the race, thanks to the added wild card, buyers outnumbers sellers at this point. "I think it's going to be (a seller's market)," Jocketty said. The Reds also are thin on big-league-ready prospects after the offseason trades to get Mat Latos and Sean Marshall. Does Jocketty think he can swing a big deal? "Right now, I'd say no because we're not close," he said. "I'm not sure there's a big deal out there to be made." The Reds have been rumored to be interested in the Philadelphia Phillies' Juan Pierre and the San Diego Padres...

By doing so, he was able to help lift his...

Rolen a true pro for surging Reds

This isnt like 2006, when former Cardinals manager Tony La Russa benched third baseman Scott Rolen twice during the playoffs. Back then, Rolen was not happy. He had given himself to the team physically during the regular season, playing 142 games with an ailing shoulder. He then proved his point to La Russa after starting the postseason 1 for 11, batting .351 with a .955 OPS over...

Game 86: Cardinals 3, Reds 5

For the first baseball game after the All Star break, the Cincinnati Reds started their first series at home in more than two weeks and took on the St. Louis Cardinals. After that wretchedly late West Coast trip before the break, it was really nice to have baseball back. A decent pitching duel seemed possible, with Adam Wainwright going against Mat Latos. Unfortunately, Mr. April...
