Found July 31, 2013 on Redlegs Review:

After Tuesday's 4-2 defeat at the hands of the San Diego Padres, the Reds have now lost five games in a row, and suddenly find themselves 5.5 game back of the division-leading Pittsburgh Pirates. There is no denying that this club needs help moving forward. Many people have suggested that a right-handed bat is the biggest need at this point. But with Ryan Ludwick set to come back soon, and with the lack of legitimate options, the Reds may hold steady with what they have offensively, which could be a very scary thought given their anemic offensive output in the past week. One move they might make, though, is to add another left-handed reliever to the bullpen. Sean Marshall, who has been battling shoulder soreness all season, suffered another setback last week, and is unlikely to return from the disabled list anytime soon. Thus, the need for another southpaw in the 'pen has become apparently obvious to go alongside Manny Parra and Aroldis Chapman. According to B...

JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 7-30-13

Iowa Cubs 4 @ Salt Lake Bees 5 I. Don't. Care. And neither do you. Mike Olt went 1-4, but every time he didn't single, he struck out. Logan Watkins also singled, as did a bunch of other people. What do you want from me? At least Jae-Hoon Ha doubled and homered; Edwin Mayonnaise and Luis Flores doubled too. The I-Cubs struck out 14 times and walked twice. Yoanner Negrin looked...

They have gotten calls on Nate Schierholtz, Jeff Samardzija, Kevin Gregg, James Russell and others. Sveum: Samardzija deal 'not realistic'

Chicago Cubs starter Jeff Samardzija has shrugged off trade rumors and manager Dale Sveum said Sunday that any rumor about his right-hander being dealt is “silly.” Yet the Cubs listened to Arizona when the Diamondbacks asked their asking price for Samardzija and other teams have inquired as well. CBSSports.com’s Jon Heymnan wrote the only reason the Cubs “are looking around...

Kim DeJesus, David’s wife, jokes about trade deadline driving her to drink

The MLB trade deadline has been relatively quiet this year compared to years past. Jeff Samardjiza, along with every other Chicago Cub, is on the trading block. (Photo credit: Gene J. Puskar/AP) The Chicago Cubs already dealt their two biggest trade commodities, Matt Garza and Alfonso Soriano, last week. JOT: Cubs Minor League Recap 7-31-13

Iowa Cubs 3 @ Salt Lake Bees 6 Mike Olt went 0-4. Jae-Hoon Ha went 2-3 with a walk. No one else played so don't even look. I seriously considered linking that score to a rick roll. Justin Grimm had a pretty forgettable 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 SO start. Casey Coleman was dicey in his scoreless frame, but then Marcus Hatley allowed 4 runs in 0.2 innings. Ick. Marcos Mateo, newly...

The July 31 non-waiver trade deadline came and went Wednesday without much of whimper from the Reds. In fact, there was very little movement at all around the league as most teams decided to stand pat with what they had entering the last two months of the regular season. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty called it the quietest trade deadline he has ever seen. “Today was...

Happy Trade Deadline Day

TheJedi have already knocked out a number of trades that today shouldn't bring too much excitement, but there's still a few pieces left on the trading block. The most likely is Nate Schierholtz whom Jayson Stark reiterates is the most likely Cub to be dealt today. The Pirates and Rangers seem like the most likely spots at the moment. Heyman says Jeff Samardzija won't...

Bailey, Reds salvage series finale in San Diego

The difference between the game that ended the Reds' losing streak and the five games that constituted it? Two two-out hits. Chris Heisey's RBI single followed by Joey Votto's two-run double in the seventh were the difference in the Reds' 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres in the final game of the 10-day 11-game road trip. "That's the difference every...
