Cincinnati (72-47) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to a convincing 7-3 victory over the visiting Cubs (46-71) on Friday. Bronson Arroyo improved his record to 9-7 after a gritty outing. Meanwhile, his former Reds teammate, Travis Wood, took the loss to drop his mark on the year to 4-9.
All in all, it was just one more step in the direction the Reds want to go come October...the postseason.
Here is a breakdown of the good, bad and notables from "Elvis Night" at GABP:
+ After having their 5-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, the Reds might have very well began a new one on Friday.
+ The "Todd Frazier for NL Rookie of the Year campaign" is building some serious steam. He smacked his 16th homer of the season, scored twice, knocked in two (51) and added a single. Where would this team be without The Toddfather?
+ On that same note, where would the Reds also be without Ryan Ludwick? The 33-year old bopped...

The Cincinnati Reds and Jay Bruce are both streaky.
When both are hot, Cincinnati is awfully difficult to stop.
Bruce, who has homered in three straight games, looks to help the Reds post their fifth winning streak of at least six games this season Thursday night while completing their second consecutive sweep of the New York Mets.
Scott Rolen and Todd Frazier hit back-to-back home...
There’s almost no part of the game last night that doesn’t qualify as an all-out stinker as the Reds broke their 5-game win streak in the final game of the series against the Mets.
Homer Bailey’s performance certainly qualifies. In just 5.2 innings, he allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks. I was on the road last night so I didn’t see the game on t.v., but I did...
The Reds dropped an ugly game to the Mets last night to end the latest winning streak. Homer Bailey did not have a good outing, just as he hasn’t over his last four outings. If the pitcher introduced in the double-header tomorrow makes a good start, maybe Bailey will be getting a little more rest. It’s hard to imagine how he’d contribute to a postseason team in this...

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Johnny Cueto knows how to prepare for day games, and his routine is working out quite well for him.
Cueto pitched eight crisp innings, Todd Frazier hit a go-ahead homer for the second straight game and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 on Saturday in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.
"Don't get me wrong," Cueto said through an...
Last week against the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Reds couldn't get much going against former teammate Travis Wood, who admitted having some extra motivation in facing his old club for the first time.
Cincinnati could be in for more of the same when Wood returns to Great American Ball Park in the opener of a four-game series Friday night.
The NL Central-leading Reds (71-47)...

He didn't pitch very well again.
The Reds (71-47) were riding a five-game winning streak and looking to sweep the Mets (56-62), but New York and Matt Harvey (W 2-3, 3.00) had other ideas. Harvey struck out eight, while allowing just one earned run on four hits over 7.2 innings to lead the Metropolitans to an 8-4 victory. Homer Bailey (L 10-8, 4.16) once again struggled...
It’s Saturday, and the Reds play a non-traditional doubleheader. Is there anything better? A full 18 innings of baseball lie ahead, and hopefully two wins at the end of the day are gained in the standings.
