Who's hot and who's not in spring training
Denis Phipps has enjoyed a solid spring thus far
Believe it or not, the Redlegs (4-4-1) are already a quarter of the way through their Spring Training schedule. And while the preseason isn't exactly a good indicator of regular season success, it does carry serious implications for a lot of players just trying to make the roster.
With that in mind here are the players turning...
Does Dusty still hold grudge against Cubs?
Reds manager Dusty Baker spent four years in Chicago as manager of the Cubs from 2003-06. And although it's been nearly half a decade since, the 62-year old still seems a bit sour on the way things ended there.
Baker was asked before Monday's Reds-Cubs Spring Training game how he felt about playing against a team he used to manage. Here's what he had to say:
“I...
ST Game 11: Reds 6, Cubs 8
Bronson Arroyo didn’t fare as well in his second start of the Spring for the Cincinnati Reds. Arroyo allowed 4 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks over 2 innings. He struck out just one batter.
The offense continues to produce runs, as they were up to the task of recovering from Arroyo’s deficit. Todd Frazier homered in the 2nd inning, and Zach Cozart doubled in a couple in the third...
Reds announce Aaron Boone as Grand Marshal of parade
For the parade on Opening Day this year, the Reds have selected former third baseman Aaron Boone to be the Grand Marshall. One can only look forward to the year when Sean Marshal is chosen. Grand Marshal Marshal. It has a certain Catch-22 ring to it.
The Cincinnati Reds and Findlay Market announce that Reds great and ESPN broadcaster Aaron Boone will be the Grand Marshal of the...
Groin injury holds back Reds reliever Bray
GOODYEAR, Ariz. It would be easy for Bill Bray to throw his hands in the air and say, "Why me? Why put myself through this? Is there something else I can do?"
That, though, isn't in Bray's make-up and is part of the reason that when he is healthy he is a guy you want on the mound when it it decide-time in baseball games.
Uh, that's when he is healthy. And...
Arroyo roughed up, so are Reds, lose 8-6
Monday's exhibition game pitted the Redlegs against division rival Chicago in Mesa, Arizona. Unfortunately, the Reds' trip to HoHoKam Park ended in defeat as the host Cubs (5-4) downed them (5-5-1) 8-6. But there is a bit of good news. I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico. Just kidding. I'm State Farm all the way.
Here's a breakdown...
3 Reds tabbed top 100 prospects for '12
Mesoraco
Fangraphs.com released its list of the Top 100 Prospects for 2012 on Monday, and three members of the organization made the cut.
Top prospect Devin Mesoraco was the highest ranked of the three coming in at #15 overall and second among catchers (trailing only Seattle's Jesus Montero).
Minor league shortstop Billy Hamilton claimed the #43 overall spot and placed...
Cozart learning to become leader at shortstop
MESA, Ariz. Even though Zack Cozart is a 26-year-old rookie scheduled to play his first full season, Cincinnati Reds Manager Dusty Baker expects him to show the leadership of a drill sergeant, expects him to be the captain of the infield.
The shortstop position demands it.
To achieve that, Cozart is getting both ears filled, but the words come from two Hall of Famers and former...
A's double-up Cincy 6-3
Saturday's affair with the Oakland A's (6-3) made the Reds (4-4-1) thankful that these games only serve as exhibitions. Dusty Baker's crew fell 6-3 on the road in a game in which both ace Johnny Cueto and the defense struggled a bit. Here is the good, the bad and a few notables from Saturday:
The Good:
-Prospects Donnie Joseph and Kyle Lotzkar combined to toss...
Baseball card of the day: Mat Latos
This card is from the 2012 Topps "Opening Day" collection. It's the first image I've seen of Latos in an actual Reds uniform. Although the card is photoshopped or visually-altered in someway, it's still good to see the newcomer in Cincinnati attire.

Cespedes' A's debut 'Dream come true'
Finally, Yoenis Cespedes got to have fun at the ballpark again -- and he enjoyed every second of it.
Signed by the Oakland A's to the biggest contract ever given a Cuban player, Cespedes was able to put the seven months of uncertainty following his defection behind him on Saturday afternoon.
A week after finalizing the four-year, $36 million deal with the A's, Cespedes...
Becoming a Reds pitcher is exciting for this guy
Sean Gallagher is extremely excited to pitch for the Cincinnati Reds. Gallagher spent 2011 with the Pirates AAA affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians, and now has a role in the big leagues.
I completely understand the excitement.
Athletics 6, Reds 3
Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes homered, walked and singled in his first major league game, leading the Oakland Athletics to a 6-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
Manny Ramirez went 0 for 3 in his return to the lineup after missing a few days because of lower back stiffness.
Cespedes walked on five pitches in his first at-bat against Johnny Cueto. He singled in his second...
