The Reds have put left-handed setup man Bill Bray on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin that has bothered him since spring training.
The move on Tuesday is retroactive to April 19. Bray gave up four hits and three runs during an 11-1 loss to St. Louis on April 18. The Reds already were missing closer Ryan Madson, out for the season with a torn elbow ligament.
Bray led the staff and finished tied for second in the National League with 79 appearances last season. He missed much of spring training with the strained groin, and made only five appearances before going on the DL.
The Reds called up right-hander J.J. Hoover from Triple-A Louisville. They got Hoover from the Braves in a trade on April 1.

Bray is headed toward the sidelines
Yet another Reds reliever has been bitten by the injury bug as the team placed LHP Bill Bray (groin) on the 15-day DL on Wednesday. He joins fellow relief pitchers Nick Masset (shoulder) and Ryan Madson (shoulder) on the list of ailing arms from the 'pen.
The 28-year old Bray has been clearly bothered by the condition all spring...
RHP J.J. Hoover was recalled when LHP Bill Bray was placed on the 15-day disabled
list Tuesday, retroactive to April 19, after tweaking the groin injury that set him back
in spring training. Bray aggravated the injury in his last appearance, on April 18 in St.
Louis. Bray had allowed five hits, including two home runs, and four runs with three walks
and three strikeouts in...
The Cincinnati Reds, one of the preseason favorites to win the NL Central, are 8-9, 2.5 games out of first place. On the surface, that looks fine. But dig a little deeper, and you realize that the team's offense has been awful. They're htiting just .229 with only 11 homers, and with the entire team struggling, it's hard to point the blame at one person. Well, I can think...
I’m sure the Cincinnati Reds can use the day off after playing about 100 games in a row away from home and losing 80 of them*. But I always miss baseball, even after stretches like that. Of course, a bunch of those games were during the day while I was at work, so it was kind of like they were off days to me, anyway.
But today is an actual off-day before the Reds start a series...

In 2011, Mat Latos emerged from April with an 0-4 record and an earned run average near five. Even though he’s wearing a different uniform, things must be feeling eerily familiar right now.
After three starts, Latos finds himself winless with his new team and currently possesses an unseemly 8.22 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. Yes, the ERA predictors suggest Latos hasn’t been quite this bad...
The Reds (8-9) and Giants (9-8) faced off in the first of a three game series, and first of a nine game home stand. And it was a great evening for the Redlegs.
Mat Latos pitched 7 innings of shut out baseball to lead the Reds to a 9-2 win over the Giants, and Latos' first win in a Reds uniform. The Reds lit up the scoreboard early, forcing Cain to throw 38 pitches and giving...
After going thirteen days without playing a game at GABP, the Reds will return home on Tuesday to kick-off a 9-game homestand with a series versus the Giants. They'll follow the 3-game series against San Francisco with a weekend series against the Astros and a trio of games versus the Cubs from May 1-3.
For those of you value-minded fans out there, here is a list of the...
Scott Rolen's homer started a four-run rally in the seventh inning that swept the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 victory Wednesday night, extending the San Francisco Giants' misery at Great American Ball Park.
Rolen's first homer since July 6 ended Barry Zito's shutout and got into the Giants' bullpen, which let the game get away on a rain-slicked field.
Here's a running list of injury updates around the Major Leagues:
– Phillies first baseman, Ryan Howard, hasn't been cleared to begin baseball activities according to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly. He adds that Hunter Pence will have a MRI on his left shoulder today.
– The New York Mets have placed left fielder Jason Bay on the Disabled List with a non-displaced rib fracture...
