Scott Rolen can't lift his left shoulder very far, an ominous sign for a struggling Cincinnati Reds team that needs him in the lineup. The third baseman went on the disabled list Friday with inflammation in his left shoulder and the left side of his neck. The problem bothered him in the second half of last season, and has landed him on the disabled list twice this year. Rolen said on Saturday that he won't swing a bat for some time. He got injections to help the injury heal the last time he went on the disabled list, but there are no immediate plans for more. Surgery isn't being considered. The 36-year-old Rolen is batting .242 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 65 games.
