Reds sign RHP Brett Tomko, open camp

Right-hander Brett Tomko signed a minor league deal with the Cincinnati Reds - the team that launched his 14-year career - and was invited to join them as they opened camp on Sunday. Tomko, who turns 39 on April 7, was the Reds' second-round pick in the June 1995 draft. He made it to the majors in 1997 and spent three seasons with Cincinnati. He was part of a four-player package the Reds traded to Seattle to get Ken Griffey Jr. on Feb. 10, 2000. Tomko has pitched for 10 teams during his career. He was 0-1 with a 4.58 ERA in eight games with Texas last season. All 36 pitchers and catchers reported to camp on Sunday, had physicals and participated in a light workout.
