The Reds beat the Padres 6-2 and lost to the Brewers 2-0 in split-squad action on Wednesday in Goodyear.
The Brewers started fast. Reds starter Brandon Williamson gave up multiple hits and a run in the first inning.
The Brewers added their second score in the fifth inning as Andruw Monasterio drove in Chris Roller.
Williamson had a solid day, giving up four hits and one run in four innings. He finished with four strikeouts.
Jake Fraley had a double in the game but the Reds couldn’t get anything going at the plate
Brent Suter had four strikeouts in two innings and allowed one run.
Cincinnati started fast in their win over San Diego. Tyler Stephenson hit his second homer of spring training—a two-run shot that gave the Reds the lead in the first inning.
Graham Ashcraft gave up a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning.
Elly De La Cruz helped Cincinnati extend their lead in the third when he hit a single and stole second base. Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit a home run to extend the Reds lead to 4-1.
The Padres produced a score of their own following a double from Jake Cornenworth which drove in Xander Bogaerts.
Stuart Fairchild hit an absolute bomb to give the Reds a 5-2 lead.
Ashcraft’s day came to a close after three innings. He allowed two runs, two hits and had one walk. Carson Spiers replaced him and produced a 1-2-3 inning with the Reds first strikeout of the game.
De La Cruz walked once again, which later led to another run for the Reds.
Spiers had an absolutely great outing for the Reds, as he pitched four scoreless innings, had five strikeouts, and only allowed three hits.
Cam Collier made an appearance in this game. He popped out, but it was nice seeing the former first-rounder get some reps.
Zach Maxwell had a big appearance with two strikeouts in a one inning.
