With Major League Baseball’s day of reckoning nearing, most players have reportedly chosen to go the Ryan Braun route and take their punishment without appeal. The one player still holding out? Take a guess. While “upward of a dozen players” are expected to accept their suspensions when they are handed down (likely before the end of the week), Alex Rodriguez continues to hold out, multiple league sources told Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan. Rodriguez’s refusal to cooperate comes despite what one source called an “overwhelming” heap of evidence against him and the league’s threats to double the suspensions of players who refuse to take plea deals, according to Passan. Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera and minor leaguers Fernando Martinez, Fautino de los Santos, Cesar Puello and Norbeto Martin will all be hit with 50-game bans within the next 72 hours, CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reported Monday, and none plan to challenge their punishment. Missing from that list, however, are those who have already been hit with suspensions stemming from the Biogenesis investigation. Both Heyman and Passan report that Bartolo Colon, Yasmani Grandal and Melky Cabrera, who were each suspended 50 games last season, will likely not face further discipline.
