Red Sox Nation surely wants to see Cody Ross back in Fenway next season, but the market for the outfielder may be much larger than originally thought. Enter the Atlanta Braves, one of several teams reported to have interest in Ross. According to Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi, the Braves view Ross as a candidate to play left field everyday, with Martin Prado moving from left to third base with Chipper Jones‘ retirement. Likewise, since the team finished 30-31 against left-handed pitching last year, they view Ross’ 1.010 OPS against southpaws as a huge positive. Overall on the season, Ross hit 22 home runs with a .807 OPS. Source: #Braves pursuing free agent outfielder Cody Ross. Source: Braves interested in free agent Cody Ross

The Atlanta Braves, looking to add an outfield bat, have interest in signing free-agent outfielder Cody Ross, according to a major-league source. With Torii Hunter likely choosing between the Rangers and Tigers, the Braves are pursuing another of the top right-handed bats on the market. Ross posted an .807 OPS with 22 home runs in 130 games with the Boston Red Sox this year. Ross...

Your Morning Dump...where Ellsbury is still the most important decision

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Depending on how you value Ellsbury, there are two ways to view this option. One, the Red Sox should trade him now before his stock drops further as his MVP-caliber season goes farther into the rear-view mirror...

MMO Mailbag: Trading For Saltalamacchia Or Lavarnway?

Alex asks… The Red Sox just signed David Ross as a catcher and are also said to be going after Mike Napoli. That tells me that Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Ryan Lavarnway are certainly available. Which one would be a better target for the Mets and what would the cost be? Sean replies… Both of these players are interesting, but both have their issues and they would not be the final...

Red Sox Make Ross Deal Official

It's not the Ross we are hoping for the Boston Red Sox to sign but there's still plenty of time in free agency. But the Red Sox have made the David Ross signing official. Here's the release: BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today signed catcher David Ross to a two-year contract through the 2014 season.  The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General...

Jones Tweets massive midseason bruise

James Carr @jamescarr89 In the city of Atlanta, Chipper Jones doesn't have to do very much to impress anymore. He played his entire career in Atlanta, set records, won titles, and is one of the biggest fan-favorites in Braves' lore. Jones retired this season, surely on his way to the Hall of Fame in five years, in part because his body couldn't take the wear and tear...

Red Sox investigating Mike Napoli

This Napoli-to-Boston speculation/reporting seems to be picking up speed. Ben talked about WEEI's report about the Sox' interest in Napoli, and now ESPN's Buster Olney follows up that the Sox have their sleuthing hats on again. The last time I remember the Red Sox being noted for doing "extensive background work," it was their infamous chase of Carl Crawford...

Red Sox, Ross complete 2-year deal

The Boston Red Sox have signed catcher David Ross to a two-year deal worth $6.2 million.

Braves Notes: Kimbrel deserves shot at Cy Young

Craig Kimbrel had an amazing, record-breaking season, so its just wrong hes not among the three finalists for the NL Cy Young that will be awarded today. It will go to either Los Angeles Clayton Kershaw, Washingtons Gio Gonzalez or New Yorks R.A. Dickey, but Kimbrel deserved to be among the finalists, if not the winner. I know, relievers never receive much consideration for baseballs...

Chipper Jones tweeted a beautifully bruised ankle

Chipper Jones tweeted "Y'all remember that line drive from Bj Upton I took off the ankle this year? Be glad I left the bandage on!!! Yuck!" No, don't actually recall that play at all. Jones... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~ http://www.bobsblitz.com

Chipper Jones shows off nasty bruise

Nastylicious. We’ve seen our fair share of gnarly bruises around here (see Lepisto, Sami and Crain, Jesse), so when Braves 3rd baseman Chipper Jones recently tweeted out this photo of his horrifically bruised left ankle—the end result of a BJ Upton line drive off the leg early in the 2012 season—it really shouldn’t have made anyone squeamish in the least, seeing that we...

Report: Phillies Show Interest in Josh Hamilton, Talking With Cody Ross

The Phillies apparently aren’t afraid to drop some dough this offseason. ESPN’s Buster Olney sent out a couple of tweets regarding the Phillies on Monday that seem to show a willingness on Philadelphia’s part to explore a couple of free-agent outfielders. Josh Hamilton is believed to be seeking a monster contract, but according to Olney, Philadelphia is OK with giving the 31...

Former Sox drawing many suitors in the offseason

Like any baseball fan I've been spending a fair share of time on MLBTradeRumors this offseason, and I've been struck by the building interest in two former Sox: Kevin Youkilis and Jed Lowrie. Youk is a free agent and someone who many fans had hoped would return to Boston, although it doesn't appear likely. MLBTR lists six interested teams and Boston is not among them...

Torii Hunter signs with the Tigers

What's that sound you're hearing? It's a rumbling... Something's about to happen... Oh, I recognize that. That's Cody Ross' asking price skyrocketing. And you're hearing it because 37-year old outfielder Torii Hunter has agreed to a two-year, $26 million contract with the Detroit Tigers. It's not actually a bad deal for Detroit, despite Torii...
