The first batch of September call-ups has arrived in Boston. One man who won’t be joining the Red Sox is Daniel Bard. Bard, who was once again wild Saturday while pitching for Single-A Lowell, has been designated for assignment to make room for outfielder Quintin Berry on the Red Sox’ 40-man roster, according to WEEI.com. Bard hasn’t pitched in the majors since April 27, and Saturday’s outing was his first action outside of the Gulf Coast League since May 15. He didn’t give up a run during Saturday’s appearance, but he walked four — the first two on eight pitches — and threw a wild pitch while also striking out two. The right-hander has 27 walks and nine strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings in the minors this season. Bard wanted to keep pitching this season, and he even said recently that he was hopeful that he could contribute to the Red Sox in 2013. That dream won’t become a reality, though. Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo said on WEEI on Sunday that the Red Sox have added Rubby De La Rosa, catcher Ryan Lavarnway and infielder Brandon Snyder in addition to Berry.
