After being arrested for DUI earlier this spring, Drake Britton’s season has finally turned around for the best with his pitching in minor league and to three months later, being in the mix to start the for Boston Red Sox on Sunday afternoon in Oakland. Britton, who came into the 2013 season without to prove after nearly spending five seasons in the minor has put together a solid campaign with Double-A Portland. In 17 games pitched (16 starts), he went 7-6 with a 3.51 ERA in 97 innings. Britton’s control was even said to have been better has he compiled a 80/36 strikeout to walk ratio with the Seadogs. Only July 5, he took Terry Doyle’s spot on the Pawtucket Red Sox roster and made his Triple-A debut this past Tuesday in Leigh Valley. Britton struggled suffering the loss against the Iron Pigs giving up 10 hits and five runs in five and one-third innings pitched. Despite his not so good outing, it didn’t stop the Red Sox for him to be considered to a possible spot start against the Athletes this weekend along with Steven Wright and Brandon Workman. Farrell told Evan Drellich from MassLive.com the following on Britton’s…

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Doubront had one of his best starts of the season as he only allowed five hits and two walks while holding the Mariners to only one run through seven innings. The lefty mixed up his pitches well, and used four...
With the Red Sox thin in the bullpen and needing a Sunday starter it's interesting to note that Alfredo Aceves, who would seem a likely contender for a spot, was shipped off to the minors. Again.
Despite pitching well in three spot starts this season, Aceves has yet to stick with the team. His last call up lasted less than an inning.
The Red Sox just weathered another stretch where young replacements struggled on the big league stage, with Alex Wilson getting decimated in relief and Allen Webster slipping in his latest spot start.
But no matter — Boston has the best record in the American League (and almost the majors) heading into Friday’s game.
Something strange is happening with the team that calls Fenway...
The Red Sox won the series finale in Seattle today, 8-7, as Daniel Nava hit a two-out single to drive in Jackie Bradley, Jr. in the 10th inning.
Nava was an unlikely hero (and not just because the usual "he was signed for $1" reason). Heading into the at bat, Nava was 0-for-5, and to top it off, with first base open and Bradley on second, Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen...
Boston could always use another Thornton, right?
The Red Sox acquired reliever Matt Thornton, along with cash considerations, from the White Sox on Friday in exchange for minor league outfielder Brandon Jacobs. The deal — like any trade, really — carries some risk, but not enough to reconsider the addition of a potentially valuable left-hander to a bullpen in flux.
It was no...
Even though Jacoby Ellsbury‘s hitting streak came to an end Friday night against the Athletics, the Red Sox still walked away victorious for the 58th time this season. The win column is the highest its ever been for Boston before the All-Star Break.
In the last leg of their West Coast fling, the Red Sox are one win away from matching the total number of series wins in 2012. Last...

Unless you've been living under a rock, then you'll know that David Ortiz just set a new record for most hits by a designated hitter Wednesday night against the Seattle Mariners. So, with that new record begs the question: Does Big Papi have a shot at the Hall of Fame? You could make a compelling argument...
Coming off a successful 4-2 road trip, the Athletics return to Oakland to face the Boston Red Sox, marking their second-straight series against a powerhouse team to wrap up the unofficial first half of the regular season.
The Red Sox scratched, clawed and knuckled their way to a 10-inning win over the Mariners on Thursday.
The Mariners jumped on Ryan Dempster early and often. They built a 5-1 lead through three innings and held a 7-4 lead after four innings. The Red Sox kept battling, though, and the end result was a textbook team victory.
The Red Sox have shown a flair for the dramatic this season...
The Boston Red Sox acquired left-handed reliever Matt Thorton from the Chicago White Sox late Friday night. Earlier this week Boston lost LHP Andrew Miller for the season and the team acted quickly to fill the void.
“You don’t go into July hoping to trade for a reliever,” Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said in a conference call Friday night. “But we are what we...
The two best teams in the American League meet by the Bay, as the Boston Red Sox (57-37) finish their West Coast road swing at the Oakland Athletics (54-38). The A’s lead the AL West by a game over the Texas Rangers. Boston has guaranteed that it will be in first place in the AL East through the All-Star Break with a 3.5-game lead over Tampa Bay...
It’s back to Triple-A for Steven Wright.
The Red Sox announced that Wright, who dazzled in relief on Thursday, was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for the newly acquired Matt Thornton.
Wright pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen against the Mariners on Thursday, but the Red Sox acquired Thornton in a trade with the White Sox on Friday. Boston sent minor...

The Emperor of Red Sox Nation California must have really thought Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy needed some help to keep vampires away.
I say the this because he gave the NESN dynamic duo, the gift of garlic, a lot of garlic. Remy gave his to Orsillo so to me that means DO has a problem with vampires.
Just wait until you see in the video how much garlic.
