The Boston Red Sox reportedly have been offered a mega-deal by the Miami Marlins, who would trade closer Heath Bell and infielder Hanley Ramirez for outfielder Carl Crawford and a prospect. The proposed traded, which was first reported by USA Today Sports on Wednesday, would involve three All-Stars who have combined contracts of $239 million. Crawford, who was activated for the first time this season this week, was slowed this season by elbow, wrist and groin injuries. Bell has blown six saves of 25 save chances this season and has temporarily lost his job. Ramirez is in the midst of a season-long slump, hitting a career-low .249. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington denied Crawford, who is in the second year of a seven-year, $142 million contract, was involved in any trade talks. "We have not offered Carl to a single team," Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told USA TODAY Sports. "We have not pursued anything on Carl Crawford. Carl is our left fielder....

Red Sox gauging interest in Crawford

How's this for a blockbuster? Left fielder Carl Crawford to the Miami Marlins for either shortstop Jose Reyes or third baseman Hanley Ramirez, with other pieces and significant cash involved. The Boston Red Sox are contacting teams to gauge their trade interest in Crawford, according to major-league sources. No trade appears close. Such a deal would be difficult to accomplish...

BOSTON –– Carl Crawford can't catch a break. Two days after making his season debut for the Red Sox, the outfielder was linked to the Miami Marlins in reported trade discussions. Carl Crawford Turns on 'Afterburner' While Matching Kevin Youkilis on Comeback Trail (Video)

Carl Crawford has only played in two games this year, but he's already making his impact felt. The lefty continued his hot start to 2012 on Tuesday night, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and looking pretty great jetting around the basepaths. The only thing that might have made things better would have been a Red Sox victory. Kevin Youkilis put an end to that thinking, however...

Marlins' Ramirez homers in win over Nationals

MIAMI (AP) -- Hanley Ramirez had been hitting the ball hard all series with not a lot to show for it. The Marlins star was rewarded in the series finale against the Washington Nationals, smacking a two-run homer that proved to be the difference in a 5-3 win Monday night to split the four-game series. "I think I have been hitting balls hard just right to people," Ramirez...

Foul ball banks off woman’s head and into her beer cup (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. Sometimes the best plays fans make on foul balls are the ones they don’t intend to make. We saw a prime example of that at Wrigley Field on Thursday night. Hanley Ramirez sent a ball chopping down the third base line in the second inning and it hopped up into the stands, bounced off a woman’s forehead and landed directly in her beer cup...

Welcome Back CC & Youk

It had an almost poetic feel to it. On a night when Carl Crawford finally made his 2012 debut, Kevin Youkilis also made his return to Fenway Park for the first time since being traded to the Chicago White Sox. Youk, greeted warmly by the Fenway Faithful, went 3-for-4 and scored the lone Chicago run in a 5-1 Red Sox victory. Meanwhile, Crawford (pictured) went 1-for-3 with a walk...

Taking Stock: Sox Sox series

After every series, we'll take stock of how each individual and group performance affects their overall value. Lineup Jacoby Ellsbury: Jacoby sandwiched a couple of great performances in games 2 and 3 with a pair of 0-for-4 showings. The sample size is relatively small, but I do like what Jacoby is bringing to the table. Carl Crawford: Despite the talks of off-season surgery...

Adrian spoils Youk's welcome back party as Red Sox win 5-1.

In a night that had Kevin Youkilis' return to Boston & the season debut of Carl Crawford, the biggest return was Adrian Gonzalez's power. Gonzo took a high fastball from Leyson Septimo into the monster seats for a three run home run that helped give the Red Sox a 5-1 victory.   It did "spoil" Youkilis' return as he recieved a standing ovation in the...

Hanley’s Blast Lifts Miami

The Miami Marlins split a four game series with the Washington Nationals after Monday’s 5-3 victory.   The win improved Miami’s record to 43-46 and shrunk Washington’s lead in the division over the Marlins back to nine games.  In the Wild-Card chase, the Marlins also gained a game and are now six back. Carlos Zambrano won for the first time since June 3rd and moved to 5...
