The Miami Marlins have reportedly landed their biggest fish to date. Superstar shortstop Jose Reyes will trade one NL East team for another by agreeing to terms with the Marlins, according to Dino Costa of SiriusXM Radio on Sunday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Costa curiously did note that the deal would be completed if current Miami shortstop Hanley Ramirez agrees to move to third base. Reyes, who met with the Marlins on Wednesday, won the National League batting title with a .337 average, but endured another injury-plagued season with the Mets. The All-Star shortstop appeared in 126 games this season and 133 games in 2010. Injuries limited him to 36 games in 2009. In nine seasons with the Mets, Reyes has a career .292 batting average with 370 stolen bases in 1,050 games.

Loss Of Reyes Does Not Impact The Mets' Rebuild

If the reports that the Miami Marlins have extended a 6 year, $90 million dollar contract offer to Jose Reyes are true, I think it is time for Mets fans to make their peace with the fact that Reyes will not be returning next season.  While the loss of the organization's most popular player certainly deals a blow to the hopes of any Met fan hoping their team could remain in contention...

NYDN: If Reyes goes, Mets should admit they’re rebuilding

“At 28, however, [Jose Reyes] is young enough to be a centerpiece when the young pitching finally makes its presence felt. And that’s the dilemma for the people running the Mets. … Alderson and his lieutenants do have a plan for the future. But if Reyes leaves, they should just admit that 2012 isn’t part of it. Otherwise their fans have a right to ask if this is New York...

Patience Not Hysteria With Reyes Reports

Last week it was “Dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!” as Dr. Peter Venkman would say. Now it’s “well well Sandy still hasn’t made his offer” Yeah and neither have the other teams who are interested. The biggest reason I’m not all over Alderson for not “making an offer,” is because I feel he’s testing the market. Just like the Cardinals are testing...

Taking His Talents To South Beach?

There are two aspects to the Miami Marlins & Jose Reyes saga that I haven’t really heard mentioned yet. The first is that the Marlins had to put up $155 million for the stadium, plus purchase an additional $100 million in parking from the city. These funds do not include any additional stadium cost. Frankly, I’m not sure who paid the staff when they were at the old stadium...

Would You Trade Wright If Reyes Goes?

With the news that Jose Reyes and the Marlins are getting closer and closer to reaching a deal, it may become time to seriously consider what life for the New York Mets will be like without Jose Reyes. It is highly unlikely that Reyes or any other big name free agent will sign until the new CBA is in place, but the two sides could easily put together a deal that is just waiting...

Sources: Marlins pursue Pujols, Reyes

According to sources the Marlins have made substantial offers to both Jose Reyes and Albert Pujols. Pujols, who has played with the St. Louis Cardinals for his entire 11-year major-league career is this offseason's prize free agent. The game's premier hitter and quality first baseman turned down a 10-year, $200 million deal to re-sign with St. Louis a year ago. Reyes, with...

Darren Rovell: Mets are desperate for season ticket sales

Matthew Cerrone: Well, the Mets didn’t do themselves any favors by setting the renewal date so early (Nov. 7), since – at that point – those fans had no idea what they’re agreeing to pay to see (i.e., Jose Reyes). To be honest, I have heard from more fans this November - compared to years past – saying they do not intend to make that type of investment next year. In...

Reyes Leaning Toward Marlins, But Wants To See More Offers

As Jorge Sedano, a contributor for the Miami Herald, first reported via Twitter that a team source told him that Jose Reyes to the Miami Marlins is “almost a done deal.” The news quickly gained steam and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, then reported that the Marlins have made significant offers to both Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle and Albert Pujols. Yesterday, team owner Jeffrey...

Marlins Offer Reyes 6 Years, $90 Million

The Miami Marlins’ preliminary offer to Jose Reyes was for six years, $90 million a source has told Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. In addition to that going for them, the story cited a source saying the potential of playing in a warm climate, which would lessen the risk to his hamstrings, as well as playing for Ozzie Guillen, would be attractive to Reyes. If this is true it disputes...

D12: Hanley Ramirez isn’t all smiles about Jose Reyes after all

'Duk's Dozen is a heaping morning serving of baseball items, links and takes — designed to keep you warm all offseason long. 1. Last week, this space featured a linked piece stating that Hanley Ramirez was looking forward to playing on the same Miami Marlins team as Jose Reyes. (This photo, taken during the 2009 WBC, suggests a close bond between the two.) Now, whether...

In Case You Missed It: Mets Weekend Review

In case you missed it, this past weekend: Despite two radio hosts and a number of people on Twitter saying Jose Reyes agreed to sign with the Marlins, he did not ink a deal and most mainstream sources, as well as MetsBlog.com, said (as of last night) nothing has happened. (MetsBlog.com) The Associated Press reported that Albert Pujols, Reyes and Mark Buehrle have received formal...

Marlins eye Pujols, Reyes and new era

MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins unveiled their new uniforms Friday night. They'd love to fill them with some superstars. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria confirmed that a trio of top free agents, first baseman Albert Pujols, shortstop Jose Reyes and left-handed starting pitcher Mark Buehrle, visited with the team this week. Pujols, the hottest free agent on the market, toured Miami'...

If Reyes leaves, Murphy at 2B

Plan A is still Jose Reyes, but the Mets already have formulated Plan B. If Reyes is not re-signed, the Mets may try to compensate for that loss of offense by attempting to make Daniel Murphy the full-time second baseman, according to an organizational source. Murphy, whose 2011 season ended...

NL East Notes: Phillies, Hamels, Mets, Reyes, Capuano

The Phillies made waves with their four-year, $50MM signing of Jonathan Papelbon, but now they must look at how that deal and the rest of their hefty payroll will shape their contract talks with Cole Hamels.  Here's a look at the Phillies and more from the NL East.. There doesn't appear to be any conversations between the Phillies and left-hander Cole Hamels, who will...
