The most noise the Mets made at the winter meetings in Nashville was signing David Wright to a lengthy contract extension. That doesn’t mean they’re done shopping this holiday season. According to the New York Post, the Mets continue to actively pursue free-agent help and are “kicking the tires” on outfielder Cody Ross. Ross is coming off a solid season with the Red Sox in which he hit .267 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs while becoming a fan favorite during a tumultuous year for Boston. The Sox have since signed outfielders Jonny Gomes and Shane Victorino, though, thus leaving Ross’ status up in the air. The Mets’ interest in Ross reportedly comes on the heels of New York watching other options in the club’s price range — such as Ryan Ludwick, Nate Schierholtz and Mark Reynolds — sign elsewhere. Ross is believed to be seeking a three-year deal, but the Mets reportedly are unlikely to go beyond two years with any free agent. Ross also continues to be linked to other teams, including the Mariners and Yankees.
