Boston Red Sox reliever Vicente Padilla tossed a verbal salvo in his feud with Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira by suggesting Teixeira should play a "women's sport," ESPNNewYork.com reported.

Padilla also said Teixeira has trouble with Latin players, but Teixeria called the comment "completely erroneous."

"That's just comedy," Teixeira said Sunday.

The feud started seven years ago when Teixeira, then with the Rangers, hit home runs off Padilla in his first two at-bats against him.

Teixeira says Padilla had been head-hunting ever since. Teixeira had been hitless in eight at-bats against Padilla since hitting the homers. He had also walked four times and had been hit three times by Padilla in that stretch before getting a key two-run triple off Padilla on Friday.

Teixeira was particularly pleased about the hit, because, he said then, when he and Padilla were teammates with Texas, Teixeira believed he and teammate Michael Young were hit in retaliation for many of the times Padilla hit opposing batters.

Padilla responded in an interview with NESN.com by saying, "In this sport, as competitive ball players, we get pretty fired up. So I think, maybe, (Teixeira) picked the wrong profession. I think he'd be better off playing a women's sport."

Padilla then implied Teixeira had issues with Padilla and former teammate Frank Francisco because they were Latin.

Teixeira denied it.

In an interview Sunday with ESPN Deportes, Padilla expanded on his comments.

"We had some problems when we were teammates," Padilla told Deportes. "We used to be friends, but then there was this incident when I hit someone unintentionally and then he got hit and then he said he would retaliate and hit me with a bat and I guess it escalated from there."

He said that Teixeira has "a bit of a problem with Hispanic players," but didn't offer more details.

"We are all men here playing baseball," Padilla told Deportes. "We don't need no women playing baseball."
