Report: Phillies acquire outfielder Brandon Marsh in trade with Angels

The Los Angeles Angels traded outfielder Brandon Marsh to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in a deal that is expected to send minor league catcher Logan O'Hoppe to the Angels organization, according to Robert Murray of FanSided.

Marsh, 24, made his major league debut last July after being touted as one of the top prospects in baseball, and he played in center field in the place of Mike Trout due to injury. In 70 games, he batted .254 with three triples, two home runs, 19 RBI and a .994 fielding percentage in the Angels outfield.

This year, he's hit eight homers with 37 RBI, but his batting average has dropped to .226 and Marsh has made three errors while playing in left field this season. With the Phillies, he'll be under team control for the next two seasons.

O'Hoppe, 22, was the Phillies' third-ranked prospect and has been most recently playing for the Double-A Reading Fighting Phils. In 74 games this season, he's batting .269 with 15 home runs and 45 RBI.

The Angels could use help behind home plate with 31-year-old Max Stassi and 38-year-old Kurt Suzuki splitting the role this season and batting a combined .204. Edgar Quero, a 19-year-old Single-A player, is the only catcher in the team's top 30 prospects.
