The Phillies announced early Friday afternoon that they would have a 2:30 p.m. press conference. Not long after that, the reported news was out. The Phillies will be making a managerial change and will be moving on from current skipper Charlie Manuel, according to CSN Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury. Manuel is in his ninth season as Phillies manager. His record is 780-36 over that time. The Phillies won the World Series in 2008 under Manuel and they returned to the Fall Classic in 2009 but fell to the Yankees. Manuel led Philly to five consecutive division titles from 2007 through 2011. However, the Phils went just 81-81 last season and are 53-67 this year. Phillies to make manager change, sources say. Charlie Manuel Displays Class in Wake of Being Fired, Asks Fans to Keep Rooting for Phillies

Charlie Manuel was never supposed to have survived in Philadelphia, professionally speaking. He was a Japanese league superstar who made his (small) mark as a major league player serving as a pinch hitter. He spoke with a West Virginia drawl in a city where the ability to talk fast and slick is only slightly less important to a person’s success than being a local. And he was mocked...

Goodbye, Cholly
