Javier Vazquez‘s big league career could be over, but the end didn’t come before a few teams reportedly considered his services. According to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox had major interest in Vazquez before a knee injury put the pitcher’s season in jeopardy. The Nationals, Orioles, Yankees and Brewers reportedly were among the other teams to consider the 36-year-old free agent. Vazquez sat out the 2012 season, but he apparently drew interest this winter while pitching in Puerto Rico. The right-hander was reportedly touching 95 mph on the radar gun — even though it’s hard to believe — and big league clubs, including the Sox, reportedly sent scouts down to check him out. Vazquez’s major league career could now potentially be over, though. Not only did he sit out the 2012 season, but Vazquez has reportedly been dealing with an injured right knee. The ailment will keep him from pitching in the World Baseball Classic, and according to Ruben Rodriguez of El Nuevo Dia, Vazquez won’t pitch in the majors this season. There is, of course, the possibility that Vazquez attempts another comeback after healing from the injury. It might be a long shot considering all of the factors involved, though.
