Giants-javier-lopez-throws
If there’s one thing we’re learning a few weeks before the trade deadline, it’s that the Red Sox are fishing for bullpen help. Their excursion stems from coast to coast. According to FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi, the Red Sox and Tigers have checked in with the Giants about relievers in case San Francisco decides to sell. The Giants enter Thursday with a 40-50 record, and although they’re only 6 1/2 games back in the NL West, they’re also in last place. San Francisco obviously has some work to do and if it doesn’t do it before July 31, perhaps we’ll see the Giants sell off some pieces. If that’s the case, it then becomes a matter of which relievers the Giants are willing to move. Morosi lists Javier Lopez as one potential candidate to move if the Giants decide to become sellers. Lopez, who is a free agent after this season, has a 1.64 ERA in 22 innings over 38 appearances this season. The 36-year-old left-hander has spent the last four seasons with the Giants, but he has pitched for four o...

Reactions To The Francoeur Signing

What do I think of the Giants signing Jeff Francoeur? I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see it having a major impact.  I was wrong, after all, about Pat Burrell. Francoeur has had a lot of bad years and only one good one over the last half-decade or so.  He’s decent against left-handed pitching only.  He’s got mediocre defense.  I don’t see him catching the Giants magic...

Chad Gaudin charged with lewdness after allegedly groping woman in Las Vegas ER

So, Chad Gaudin had himself quite a night in Vegas earlier this year. The Giants pitcher is charged with open and gross lewdness, a misdemeanor, after he was arrested back in January for allegedly groping a woman in an ER lobby. It’s a story that’s just downright bizarre and creepy. Police say it all went down at 4:30 a.m. at the Desert Springs Hospital three miles off the...

Matt Cain says he's healthy after Giants pull him in first inning

The sight of the bullpen warming up is not something Matt Cain is used to in the first inning of a game, but that's exactly what happened on Wednesday night against the New York Mets. A short time later, following John Buck's two-run single, San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy pulled Cain for Mike Kickham after just 36 pitches. Cain told Tim Kawakami of the San Jose...

Kensuke Tanaka makes spectacular catch in Giants debut

It didn't take long for Kensuke Tanaka to make a big impression during his MLB debut Tuesday night. The San Francisco Giants leftfielder also left a little mark on the left field wall after robbing the New York Mets' Andrew Brown of hit in the second-inning with this spectacular catch. San Francisco Giants Option Mike Kickham To Fresno

The San Francisco Giants have optioned left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham to Triple-A Fresno. The young lefty did not make an appearance during his latest call up back on Tuesday. He rejoins Fresno’s rotation and should get another chance later in the summer to showcase his talents at the big league level. The post San Francisco Giants Option Mike Kickham To Fresno appeared first...

You Mad, Bro? Salami is the Wyrd

Man, from these fans, you’d never know the Giants had won 2 World Series titles in 3 years… From the SB Nation San Francisco Giants blog McCovey Chronicles “I’ve been praying and praying for Jeff Francoeur to save the Giants I’m anticipating a 30 game winning streak starting tonight!” “Mostly, having to do with Jeff Francoeur’s stupidly spelled name. I officially...

Giants 4, Padres 2

Pablo Sandoval hit his first home run since May 21, and All-Star Madison Bumgarner settled down to allow just four hits in seven innings as the San Francisco Giants beat the San Diego Padres 4-2 Thursday night in a matchup of the worst teams in the weak NL West. The defending World Series champion Giants, who snapped a four-game losing streak, have been in a free-fall since June...

Division battle by the bay, Oakland vs Giants

Oakland fans have had to wait a long time for days like this. As anyone familiar with Bay Area baseball will surely know, the San Francisco Giants have won two out of the last three World Series Championships. For too long now Oakland fans have seen throngs of new Giants fans delivered by the week, but as Bob Dylan might say the times they are a changing. The Oakland Athletics have...

True Torture

Wait, the Giants won? Does that mean we’ve passed Rock Bottom? Actually, I didn’t ask that.  Don’t want to jinx anything.  Sorry, Baseball Gods!

Byrd Slams, Giants Continue to Slide in 10-6 Loss: “It Stinks. Everything Stinks.”

What originally looked like an evenly-matched game escalated quickly as the San Francisco Giants fell once more to the New York Mets 10-6 on Tuesday night. Marlon Byrd knocked any hope of either extra-innings or a Giants win out of the park with a grand slam in the eighth inning. Jeremy Affeldt, whose three earned runs scored on Byrd’s slam, was grasping at straws. “It stinks...
