The Boston Red Sox are pursuing free-agent first baseman Adam LaRoche, according to a report from SB Nation Boston's Jen Royle. LaRoche is seeking a three-year deal, despite having multiple two-year offers on the table. One of those offers is from the Washington Nationals, the team which LaRoche spent the previous two seasons. The 33-year-old batted .271 with 33 home runs and 100 RBI in 2012, and earned a Gold Glove. Boston could be exploring the possibility as a way of getting out of an agreement with free-agent Mike Napoli, whose three-deal appears to have hit a snag over concerns regarding his hip. That $39-million agreement hasn't been finalized.

Signing LaRoche A Bad Idea For Red Sox
Rumor has it that the Boston Red Sox are currently in discussions with free agent first basemen Adam LaRoche. In light of the state of the franchise, the other teams in the AL East, and the other additions the Sox made this winter, this is a bad idea.
To figure out why this is a bad move, we need to start at last season. Boston lost more than 90 games this season for the first...
Boston Red Sox continue confusing offseason
Today the Boston Red Sox finalized their one-year, $9.5M deal with shortstop Stephen Drew. Forgetting for a moment the painful memories dredged up by having a Drew on the roster, this is yet another strange acquisition. While Drew has some lingering upside, he’s clearly not the high-end player many thought he’d become. Nor is $9.5M chump change. As they did with Shane...
Red Sox Rumors: What’s Next for Andrew Bailey?
The Boston Red Sox officially announced their acquisition of
Joel Hanrahan yesterday and named the veteran as their closer entering the 2013
season. Boston acquired Andrew Bailey last offseason, a player they expected to
be their closer of the future. It’s now unclear what the future holds for
Bailey, who will enter spring as the Red Sox setup man to Hanrahan, reports Jon...
Drew, Red Sox finalize contract
Nine days after shortstop Stephen Drew and the Boston Red Sox agreed to a one-year, $9.5 million deal, the contract was finalized Wednesday. Drew, 29, split last season between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Oakland Athletics. He became a free agent when the A's rejected a $10 million mutual option on his contract in October. Instead, Drew received a $1.35 million buyout...

MLB Rumors: Boston Red Sox Acquire Joel Hanrahan To Replace Andrew Bailey As Closer
The Boston Red Sox have completed a six player deal that will bring Joel Hanrahan to the team in exchange for Mark Melancon and prospects. It is a deal that was first reported last weekend, but has now been consummated and made official on Wednesday.
The Red Sox have made no secret that Hanrahan will serve as the team’s closer, and that there will be no competition between he and...
Red Sox Have Have Improved Bullpen for 2013, But Is it Best in American League? (Video)
The Red Sox certainly improved their bullpen this winter.
In addition to guys with closing experience like Andrew Bailey and Alfredo Aceves, the team added more live arms in Joel Hanrahan and Koji Uehara. That gives Boston one of the deepest bullpens in the American League, but is it the best?
The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham think so, but his colleague Nick Cafardo disagrees,...

Joel Hanrahan to Serve as Red Sox’ Closer, Andrew Bailey to Pitch in Setup Role to Begin Spring Training
The Red Sox have already nipped one problem in the bud.
Assistant general manager Brian O’Halloran said during a conference call Wednesday that the plan is for Joel Hanrahan to enter spring training as Boston’s closer. That puts an abrupt end to the debate as to whether the newly acquired Hanrahan or Andrew Bailey would pitch the ninth inning for the Red Sox this season.

The signing means that Iglesias presumably [...]
