The Boston Red Sox have reportedly settled on pitching prospect Trey McNutt as the compensation they seek from the Chicago Cubs for the right to hire Theo Epstein as their next general manager.A report out of Chicago suggests the two sides could announce a formal agreement as early as Tuesday.Talk of compensation for the signing of Epstein had become heated in recent days, even though the Red Sox had already decided on Ben Cherington as Epstein's replacement.Epstein has reportedly agreed in principle to a five-year deal worth $15 million to become the GM of the Cubs. The Red Sox sought compensation because Epstein has one year left on his contract in Boston. The young executive is considered one of the top GMs in the game after leading the Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007.McNutt, 22, went 5-6 with a 4.55 ERA in 22 starts with the Cubs' Double-A affiliate in Tennessee last season.
