With some playing time available in the Red Sox’ outfield, Ryan Kalish figured to be one of the major players fighting for at-bats from the corner outfield positions. Well, that quest looks to be put on hold, at least through Spring Training.
According to various reports, Kalish recently felt pain while swinging a bat, and was subsequently diagnosed with an undisclosed injury to the labrum in his right (non-throwing) shoulder. He is set to undergo surgery with renowned surgeon Dr. Lewis Yocum next week, and is expected to miss at least all of Spring Training.
The Red Sox’ 2010 team rookie of the year has been beset by injuries throughout his career. He’s twice gone under the knife before, once for a bulging disc in his neck and a second time for a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
