The Boston Red Sox late Saturday reportedly hired away John Farrell from Toronto to be the BoSox's new manager, according to CSN New England. According to CSN's Sean McAdam, an announcement from the team will be forthcoming, and that Farrell reportedly will receive a three-year contract through the 2015 season. Compensation from the Red Sox to the Blue Jays is expected to be announced in the coming days, McAdam reported. In a report just before midnight Saturday, Fox Sports' Jon Paul Morosi said compensation would involve up to two players from the Red Sox to the Blue Jays, and at least one of those players will reportedly be a member of the Red Sox' current roster. Farrell's record in two seasons with Toronto was 154-170. In a sense, it's a homecoming of sorts for Farrell, who was the Red Sox pitching coach from 2007 through 2010 before he accepted the Blue Jays' job. Farrell reportedly beat out other candidates including Yankees bench coach Tony Pena, Orioles third base coach DeMarlo Hale, Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach and Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus.
