ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Will Smith pitched two-hit ball over seven innings in the longest of his five major league starts, Lorenzo Cain hit a two-run homer in the first, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels 4-1 on Tuesday night. Smith (2-3) allowed a run, struck out four and walked four against the club that drafted him in 2007 and traded him to Kansas City in 2010. The only hits against the 23-year-old left-hander came in the first inning -- a line-drive single through the box by Torii Hunter and an RBI single by Mark Trumbo that followed a walk to Albert Pujols. Jonathan Broxton allowed two singles during a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save in 27 chances. Garrett Richards (3-2) gave up four runs, five hits and three walks in five innings. The 24-year-old right-hander is trying to secure the fifth spot in the Angels' rotation.

Royals Home Runs Through 95 Games: Butler back on 30+ HR pace

It has been quite a while (36 games) since we last checked in on the home run paces of the members of the Kansas City Royals offense. The offensive power has been interesting and the paces have jumped back up a bit, but the question Royals fans always find themselves asking - Will Steve Balboni's team home run record of 36 (1985) ever be broken? While no member of the Royals...

Jim Brower To Coach For Surprise In The 2012 Arizona Fall League

Kansas City Royals press release: Brower is in his second season with Kane County after concluding his playing career in 2010.  The Minnesota native pitched for eight Major League clubs from 1999 to 2007 and led the Majors with 89 appearances in 2004. The Surprise roster, to be announced in late August, will consist of players from the Royals, Cardinals, Mets, Rangers and Red...

Jean Segura Gets ‘The Call’ from Angels

Los Angeles caught lightning in a bottle with the addition of rookie Mike Trout earlier this season. Now the team will look to do the same with the addition of Jean Segura. Back in November, I ranked the rookie as the club’s fourth-best prospect entering the this season. The middle infield prospect was promoted to the majors for the first time in his pro career after starting shortstop...

Santana skips turn in search for answers

ANAHEIM, Calif. In the ever-changing state of the Angels pitching rotation, the only sure thing is Jered Weaver. Everything else is in flux. This was never more clear than Wednesday morning when manager Mike Scioscia announced that troubled right-hander Ervin Santana will not pitch Friday as expected and that it's possible Jerome Williams could start next week against the...

One Final Rewind for Jason Kendall

[Image by Justin Bopp] After one of the lamest comeback attempts in recent memory (Manny Ramirez probably takes that trophy home), Jason Kendall has retired. While Kendall’s last few seasons were pretty miserable performances (although that did not stop the Royals and Brewers from marching him out there as much as they possibly could — indeed, Kendall insisted on it), he was...

Pujols out after being hit by pitch

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Los Angeles slugger Albert Pujols was not in the starting lineup for Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Kansas City Royals, after getting hit on the right elbow by a pitch he swung at the previous night. It was only the second time this season that the three-time NL MVP didn't start, either at first base or as the designated hitter. ...

The Great Giveaway: Royals Past Attempts to Trade for Pitching Net Nada

Jonathan Sanchez recently gave up five runs before he could record an out. I didn’t think anyone could pitch that poorly. But the next night, Ryan Verdugo did Sanchez one better (or worse) by surrendering six runs in just 1 2/3 innings. The most horrifying fact of all is that both pitchers were acquired by trading Melky Cabrera to the Giants. That fact doesn’t need to be belabored...

Angels 11, Royals 6

Jered Weaver won his seventh straight start to tie a career-best, Mike Trout and Torii Hunter homered, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 11-6 victory Wednesday. The Angels won the rubber game of the three-game series without slugger Albert Pujols, who missed his second game of the season because of a bruised right elbow. Weaver (13-1) threw 101 pitches over...

Late pinch hit downs Royals

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Pinch-hitter Kendrys Morales delivered a rare three-run single in the eighth inning to help the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Monday night. Alberto Callaspo, who spent two-plus seasons with the Royals, started the tiebreaking rally with a two-out single against reliever Greg Holland (4-3). Maicer Izturis bounced a double over the head...

Delightful Rogue - Bo Belinsky

By Rob Goldman - Historical Writer Angel publicist Irv Kaze knew it was Bo the moment he laid eyes on him—the swagger, the shades, and that slicked backed hair. Bo was easy to spot in a crowd, even at Los Angeles International Airport. It was Belinsky. Had to be. His reputation preceded him. For an entire month, the rookie pitcher had driven management crazy...

The Jerry Dipoto Trade Deadline Quote Drinking Game

In his first year as general manager of the Angels, Jerry Dipoto has proven to be aggressive and effective on the trade and free agency market.  He's also shown that he is an ever-smiling fountain of energy and positivity.  But underneath that facade, it turns out he is a cagey bastard who deftly uses his charm to give interview after interview of nothing but empty platitudes...
