Last night Rickie Weeks went 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout. If that hit had been an extra base hit, it would have been the most Rickie Weeks line ever. 1-for-4 with a walk isn't a sexy line and it's not very fun to watch, but it's good and it's valuable. It's a .400 On Base Percentage and it's what Rickie Weeks does. If you understand that and why it's valuable and why that 1-for-4 with a walk game, day in and day out is actually awesome, then good for you. You're sophisticated and understand the nuances of baseball better than your average fan. Enjoying Rickie Weeks is like listening to Grizzly Bear, it's good if you're into that sort of thing, but if you're not it's pretty freakin' boring and crappy. How do you spell Rickie Weeks? R-I-C-K-I-E W-E-E-K-S No. There are more Es and a lot more Ks. Rickie Weeks has established himself as a baseball player and he is unlikely to ever change. His walk and strikeout totals will be hi...

Who is Jean Segura and what is he doing on my leaderboard?

Fangraphs.com's leaderboard is always a fascinating place. If you keep track of players from year to year, surprises show up there before they do in the national consciousness. Headley of the Padres was last year's big surprise. Recently, upon scouring the list, the name, Jean Segura, popped up. And while I should know every player in baseball since writing about the sport...

Report: Brewers to call up Francisco Rodriguez

The Milwaukee Brewers had until Thursday to make up their mind on Francisco Rodriguez, and it appears as if they will add the former closer to the big league roster. According to a report by CBS Sports, the Brewers will call Rodriguez up from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, a day before the team had to release him if he wasn't in the Major Leagues. Rodriguez, 31, was signed...

Breakout season just a matter of time for Gomez

MILWAUKEE -- Rarely is there any activity on the field before a Sunday afternoon game as team's don't usually take batting practice prior to a day game after a night game. This particular Sunday, Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez was out chasing balls in the outfield. No, Gomez wasn't getting in some extra work, the balls he was chasing weren't even baseballs....

Estrada bounces back with extra heat

Self admittedly, Marco Estrada had one of the worst outings of his career the last time he took the mound. After an extra two days off with two extra bullpen sessions with Brewers pitching coach Rick Kranitz, Estrada bounced back with his best start of the season. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one run over seven innings to help Milwaukee snap its four-game losing...

Milwaukee Brewers Recall Francisco Rodriguez from Nashville

The Milwaukee Brewers have recalled Francisco Rodriguez from their Triple-A Nashville minor league affiliate. The veteran right-handed reliever is expected to work the later innings but will not be given the closers gig right out of the gate. Jim Henderson continues to star as the man to close out games. The post Milwaukee Brewers Recall Francisco Rodriguez from Nashville appeared...

Brewers look to keep offense going for Lohse

Runs have been difficult to come by at times for the Milwaukee Brewers, and scoring essentially has been a problem each time Kyle Lohse pitches. Reversing that trend, though, may not be easy against Pittsburgh Pirates starter Jeff Locke, who takes the mound at home Tuesday night. The Brewers (16-20) have been outscored by 25 runs while losing nine of 11 this month, beginning with...

Roenicke searching for answers after stinging setback

These are the games the Milwaukee Brewers have to win, but they continue to let winnable games slip through their grasp. With the chance to grab a win Wednesday night in Pittsburgh thanks to a pitching performance that was certainly good enough, John Axford allowed the Pirates to tie the game in the eighth while Milwaukee's offense went silent. As the Brewers ran thin on bullpen...

Rank Relief: Michael Fiers should stay in the rotation…maybe

McCutch going clutch in extras….walk off My friend asks me on Google Talk today where I was valuing Andrew McCucthen.  Now, walk off home runs aren’t a category in any fantasy league I know, but if they were, you’d be happy with Cutch tonight.  This was your basic late inning relief no out walk off home run.  On a 2-2 count, Cutch took Fiers over the right center field wall...

Breweres call up Francisco Rodrigez

credit: getty images Francisco Rodriguez was called up to the major league roster by the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. The Brewers were up against a Wednesday deadline that required them to call him up to the major leagues or grant him his release. During his time at the minor league level Rodriguez struck out seven in four scoreless innings. Signed to a minor league deal in April...

Start with a win

Jeff Locke and Kyle Lohse at 7:05. Beat the Brewers once. That's a place to start, right?

Pirates 3, Brewers 1

The Bucs knocked off the Brew Crew again on Wednesday night, making it two in a row and three out of four against Milwaukee. They own the Brewers! Wandy Rodriguez was excellent – far better than he was the last time he faced these Brewers. He pitched much like he did in his first few starts of the year – lots of strikes and quick outs with a couple hits mixed in but minimal solid...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers – Game 40

Bonus Baseball and walkoff homers.  That’s what I live for.  Things are right on schedule to win this series. It won’t matter though.  If you believe in curses, which I do, you know this season is over.  Why is this season over?  A very, very bad omen. It was a Wednesday. October 14th, 1992 to…

Managing Expectations of Sports Journalism (Why Todd Rosiak Isn’t a Shill)

(Image: Totalprosports.com) In JSOnline.com’s most recent online chat with Brewers beat writer Todd Rosiak, one participant named Craig called into question the professionalism of Mr. Rosiak and his colleague Tom Haudricourt (edited for clarity): Is it accurate to characterize what you and Haudricourt do with the Brewers as journalism?  It seems like you guys hardly do...

C’mon Brewers, Don’t Crash and Burn Quite Yet

(Image: zazzle.com) At 15-20, the Milwaukee Brewers still could rescue their season.  But after going 1-9 in their last 10 games, the team has incited all kinds of despair among a fan base that is restless for a winner.  Fans waited all winter for baseball and so far most of what the Brewers have done on the field hardly qualifies as baseball at all.  Technically...
