It’s been an up-and-down year for the Yankees, but Robinson Cano has been one of the few constants this year. This hasn’t changed as the American League playoff race is heating up, as he had a big game last night against the Orioles to pull the Yankees within a game of a wild card spot.   Cano launched a tiebreaking solo home run off Tommy Hunter in the ninth inning that gave the Yankees a 4-3 lead in a game that ended  in a decisive 5-4 win over the Orioles that had HUGE playoff implications. With the shot, Cano notched his 27th home run and 100th RBI and put the Yankees ahead of the Orioles in the race for the newly implemented second wild card spot. “We don’t want to take anything for granted,” said Cano,  ”We just want to go game by game and give it all we’ve got.”   The win, coupled with a Rays loss to Boston, moves the Yankees only one game back of the Rays and 3 1/2 games behind  the slumping Texas Rangers. Other big homers for the Yanks came from Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson, and Lyle Overbay had a big RBI on an infield single in the ninth that scored Granderson and ended up being the run that won the game. Mariano Rivera gave up a run in the bottom of the ninth on a single to right field by Brian Roberts that scored Nate McLouth. Luckily for Rivera, he recovered and finished the game with a K when Manny Machado struck out swinging.   Here’s a current look at the American League wild card race as of today, September 12th, at 3:00 PM (Click to zoom) (Courtesy of     Make sure to follow us on twitter! @tadjohnson_sk @ny_sportskings or like us on facebook!
