After hitting the ball hard and coming up empty in recent games, Nolan Arenado finally got one to drop. Tyler Chatwood pitched six strong innings, Arenado snapped an 0-for-18 skid with a go-ahead single and the Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on Sunday to win the three-game series. ''Lately, I haven't been coming through for my teammates like I wish I could,'' Arenado said. ''But I've just got to keep hitting the ball hard and that's all I can do. Luckily, I hit one up the middle and I was able to help out, which was nice.'' Chatwood (6-3), who went the distance last time out but was a tough-luck loser to Zack Greinke and the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0, allowed seven hits and two runs, one earned. Starlin Castro had four hits for Chicago, matching a career high, and Anthony Rizzo homered. Edwin Jackson (6-11) settled down after a rough start to go seven innings, allowing five hits and four runs - three earned. All the damage o...

Cubs' prospect Brett Jackson may return to Double-A end of week

The Chicago Cubs have had a lot of trouble keeping their center fielders healthy. David DeJesus, Ryan Sweeney, and Brian Bogusevic have all had their turns in center field and on the disabled list. The most obvious choice was to bring Brett Jackson up from Triple-A Iowa, but he has had his own share of injuries. Jackson, though, is making progress toward returning to action....

Hannibal Cavemen Player Drop-Kicked By Sky Diver

Wherever the baseball career of Mattingly Romanin takes him, he will always have a story to tell his grandchildren about the time he was drop-kicked by a sky diver while he was a member of the Hannibal Cavemen. Romanin tweeted he felt like he got kicked in the face yesterday….oh wait. Just another baseball promotion gone bad, the sky diver was supposed to deliver the game ball...

Cleavage of Holly Sonders attends Chicago Cubs game (photos)

With Kate Upton, Erin Andrews and Katherine Webb all played out; at least on the internet anyway. The smart owner of an internet news site evolves to see what the next eye candy will be to replace the trio of SEO gold. Holly Sonders seems to be emerging as one of the next page views drivers. Don’t rule out Jenny Dell either. This is starting to get like 2010; the brunettes are...

D-backs return home to take on struggling Cubs

The Cubs are in the headlines again in late July, but for them, that only means that they have salable commodities available to contending teams at the trade deadline. Last season it was right-hander Ryan Dempster, who vetoed a trade to Atlanta and was sent to Texas as a two-month stretch rental. This year the hot item is right-hander Matt Garza, and the Rangers again are among...

Junior Lake leads Cubs to 4-2 win over D'Backs

The Lake Show is only in its fourth day, but Junior Lake has basically sealed a spot on the Cubs’ roster. Leading off for the first time, Lake hit his first major league home run, drove in three runs and collected four hits Monday in the Cubs 4-2 win over Arizona at Chase Field. Has manager Dale Sveum seen enough to say Lake is here to stay? “Right now I’d be pretty stupid...

Matt Garza Traded To The Texas Rangers For Olt, Grimm And Edwards

Earlier this afternoon, the Chicago Cubs sent Matt Garza to the Texas Rangers for  P C.J. Edwards, 3B/OF Mike Olt, P Justin Grimm and two players to be named later. This trade is a great deal for both sides. Garza was a known commodity on a pitcher thin market and was most definitely going to be traded. Texas was in the running for him last season, until he injured himself in July...

Matt Garza scratched from start, deal with Rangers close

Chicago Cubs pitcher Matt Garza has been scratched from his start tonight as a deal with the Texas Rangers is close  It is safe to say that Garza has made [...]

Texas acquires Garza from Cubs for 3 players

The Texas Rangers finally have Matt Garza in their starting rotation. Texas acquired Garza from the Chicago Cubs in a trade completed Monday, just more than a week before the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline and several days after it initially appeared the two teams had a deal done. The Rangers have long coveted the 29-year-old right-hander who will provide a boost to a starting...

Alfonso Soriano is Headed Back to the Bronx

The New York Yankees have a deal in place to bring Alfonso Soriano back to where his career first started. This is a salary dump by the Cubs. Soriano still has fantasy value left in him and has hit at least 20 home runs in every season since 2002. He already has 17 long balls this season and could add another 10 at Yankee Stadium. Also, considering how much trouble the Yankees have...

My Life As A Cubs Fan

I was born in December 1965 at Skokie Valley Hospital and raised primarily in the suburbs of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg. My father, of course, was a Cubs fan and of course I grew up a Cubs fan as well. I do not remember too much from my youngest days; however, I do remember that my dad took me to see my first game at Wrigley Field in 1972. I do not remember how we drove into...

2013 Fantasy Baseball, Trade Coverage: Matt Garza to the Rangers

Source: Brian Kersey/Getty Images North America Any time a player gets dealt, the obvious reaction is to talk about how the deal affects his fantasy value. But the factors that affect his fantasy value don’t really have anything to do with Garza. The new ballpark and new team compared to the old ballpark and old team are really the only things that change. Garza is still Garza...

Report: Yankees, Cubs ‘Close’ to Deal That Would Send Alfonso Soriano Back to New York

The Yankees already have a roster of overpriced, aging former superstars. So what’s one more? According to multiple reports, the Yankees are talking with the Chicago Cubs about a trade that would send Alfonso Soriano back to New York where he started his career. According to the New York Post, the Yankees are actually “close” to acquiring the outfielder from Chicago. It’s...

Source: Yanks trying to land Soriano

The New York Yankees are in talks to acquire left fielder Alfonso Soriano from the Chicago Cubs, according to a major league source. The deal is close, according to George King of the New York Post. But the source said the two sides have not reached agreement, and Soriano would need to waive his no-trade clause to join the Yankees, the source said. Soriano, 37, rejected a trade...
