Todd Helton hit his first two home runs of spring training and Casey Blake hit his first, all drives off Johnny Cueto that led the Colorado Rockies over the Cincinnati Reds 7-3. Helton, entered with a .375 average (9 for 24) and five doubles, hit solo drives to right in the second and to left in the fourth. Blake's two-run homer in the fifth was his first extra-base hit of spring training. Signed as a free agent in January, Blake came in hitting .118 (2 for 17) and missed a week with neck stiffness after surgery last September. Brandon Roberts added a two-run double for Colorado. Starter Jhoulys Chacin allowed two runs and six hits in five innings. Joey Votto, in a 5-for-31 slide coming in, had an RBI single in the third and added a single in the fifth. Cueto gave up five runs and six hits in six innings.

Rockies Release Casey Blake

The Colorado Rockies announced this afternoon that the club has unconditionally released third basemen Casey Blake. The release comes after the 37-year-old hit a porous 3-for-20 with seven strike outs and struggled to stay on the field. Blake hit .249/.327/.397 with 21 home runs and 188 strike outs over the past two years.
