MLB Injury News:
During his first at-bat on Wednesday night, Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez re-aggravated the sprained ligament in his right middle finger and had to leave the game. X-rays showed no further damage, however.
#Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez is not going on the DL. Here's why: #repost http://t.co/LHtqlUyTEp

“I am not going on the DL. Nobody wants to go on the DL. I will just grind through it,” said CarGo to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. “It's not going to make a difference if I sit out for two weeks. It only takes one swing and it goes right back to where it was ... We will see how it feels in a couple of days, and go from there."
The 27-year-old Gonzalez will rest for a few days before returning to the lineup at some point this coming weekend. He sat out last weekend to rest the finger and went 5-for-5 in Monday's game.
“It's frustrating for him, it's frustrating for [manager Walt Weiss]. But we saw another doctor, and it was the same thing,” said trainer Keith Dugger. “These things usually linger the entire season. It's a day-by-day thing. We can tape it a million different ways, but if you get out in front on a swing, it can hurt it again.”
Despite the injury, CarGo came into Wednesday's game hitting .304/.370/.597 (146 OPS+) with 26 homers and 21 stolen bases. He currently leads the NL in SLG, OPS (.967) and total bases (230).
The Rockies have fallen to eight games back in the NL West at 51-58. They've lost three in a row and 26 of their last 44 games.

Colorado Rockies minor leaguers Michael Mason and Jesse Meaux have been arrested and have each been charged with first degree rape and sexual offense.
A recent post on the Denver Post’s “On The Rox” blog addressed a question asked during The Press Box, a Rockies radio program. Host Peter Burns bounced the question of unplugging the humidor off his guests. Burns suggested that a return of “high scores and home run bombs” would drive more fans to Rockies games. For those who aren’t familiar with the humidor, it is...
Was Walt Weiss sleeping in the dugout? If the Colorado Rockies brass tries to say that the team hasn't given up, all one needs to do is point to the 2nd inning of the Rockies embarrassing 11-2 loss to the Braves on Thursday night.Following a called third strike on the Rockies All-Star shortstop to end the inning, Tulo turned to home plate umpire Marvin Hudson and told him what...
Chad Bettis’ debut created a pair or roster casualties. Jeff Francis was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room on the 25-man roster and Josh Sullivan an oft-injured Triple-A reliever was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Francis pitched once out of the bullpen in his new role allowing two earned runs in 2 1/3 innings on 45 pitches. The...
Dan O'Dowd is out of ideas for the Rockies. What is left to be said? The only question that remains to be asked is, do the Colorado Rockies actually have to play out the final two months of their season? The unfortunate answer to that is "yes."Sorry to be so negative about a team that is just eight games back of first place in the National League West. Maybe there are...
Two minor league pitchers for the Colorado Rockies were arrested Thursday and charged with two counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense. Michael Ryan Mason and Jesse Maxson Meaux were both pitchers for the minor league affiliate, Asheville Tourists. Both players have been suspended and one remains in jail as his bail has been yet to be paid.

There’s nothing better in the summer than a nice day at the ballpark. Yesterday, John Calipari checked in to watch the Pirates. Earlier this offseason, Jerry Kill took in the Twins, and Bo Pelini was a staple at the College World Series in Omaha. Basically, college football and basketball coaches love baseball too.
Yesterday, Duke’s David Cutcliffe attended the Rockies-Braves...
Freddie Freeman is leading a team that knows how to win. If the Colorado Rockies think they are contenders, they haven't been looking across at the other dugout the last two nights. The Atlanta Braves showed why they are a team that is winning their division by a robust 10 games. The Braves are a team that pitches well, they hit well, and they lead the league in come-from-behind...
Jhoulys Chacin allowed one run on six hits over eight innings and the Colorado Rockies snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.
Chacin (10-5), who has won seven of his past nine decisions, stayed in the game after taking a sharp line drive off the bat of Starling Marte in the fifth inning.
Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki had a...
The Atlanta Braves had a 6+ run inning for the 3rd straight night against the Rockies on Wednesday. The hot offense led the Braves to a 9-0 win, and gives them a chance to sweep the 4-game series tomorrow night. The win for the Braves was their 6th straight. Enough cannot be said about Braves starter, Mike Minor. Over the course of 2013, Minor has become the unofficial ace...
The Rockies picked the wrong time to face the resurgent Braves who suddenly are playing as if they aim to clinch a division title by early September.
Freddie Freeman had four hits Brian McCann hit a three-run homer for the second consecutive night and Mike Minor pitched seven near-perfect innings Wednesday night in a 9-0 rout against Colorado that pushed the Braves’ winning streak...

The Bucs take on Colorado for the first time this year as they continue this giant homestand. The remaining games are not as exciting in terms of the opponent, but give the Bucs a chance to gain ground. The Rockies have struggled in an awful NL West division and certainly don’t boast great...
Sometimes you lose games. Sometimes you lose games in pretty embarrassing fashion. Last night was one of those nights. The type of night that really takes some unbelievable stats and pushes them to the mean. That’s good. Might as well get that crap all done at once instead of bleeding slowly back to the mean…
