Carlos Gonzalez was scratched from his rehab outing last night because of continued pain in his sprained finger.  The Colorado Rockies were hoping Gonzalez would have been healthy enough to be activated today, but that will no longer happen.  There's no telling how long this most recent setback will delay Gonzalez's return. Person close to CarGo said he was scratched mainly bc finger is still bothering him..So that means unlikely plays this series. #Rockies — Troy Renck (@TroyRenck) September 2, 2013 The Rockies have now been without Gonzalez for about a month thanks to the sprained finger.  Unfortunately, what seemed like a minor injury has turned into a nagging, lingering injury.  The Rockies are not in contention, so the loss of Gonzalez has little impact aside from keeping one of the game's best players on the sideline.  However, Gonzalez was in the running for the National League MVP.  That's probably no longer the case. Gonzalez is hitting .302/.367/.591 with 26 home runs.  His slugging percentage still leads the National League.  If Gonzalez's season were to end now, he would have the highest OPS of his career.  He was selected to his second-career All-Star Game this season as well. The finger injury Gonzalez suffered happened well before he was placed on the DL.  Gonzalez tried to play through the injury, and that may be part of why it is taking so long to heal.  Hopefully, a few more days of rest and rehab will allow him to clear his final hurdle and rejoin the Rockies' active roster.
