Seems to be a rough start of the year for former A’s pitchers that are now closers for other teams. Colorado Rockies closer Josh Outman strained his oblique the other day and has been placed on the DL. The lefty did not hurt himself while pitching or working out, it the injury was actually a result of the vomiting from a bout of food poisoning, manager Jim Tracy describes
“The food poisoning, there was a lot of vomiting and I really believe he strained his oblique,” Tracy said. “He’s been much better over the last couple of days but he hasn’t been able to throw. We haven’t been able to get him to the mound. So we’re just going to err on the side of caution.”
This ads the odd injuries of Spring Training that we have seen for relievers. The Yankees lost David Robertson when he hurt his foot carrying boxes down the stairs, and of course lost Joba Chamberlain to a dislocation in his foot when he hurt himself jumping on trampolines.
