MILWAUKEE — The Rockies’ faith in Jeff Francis’ recovery and Greg Smith’s potential explains why the team is not pursuing free agent Jarrod Washburn. Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd told The Post that they aren’t interested in Washburn right now.
Washburn went 9-9 with a 3.78 ERA last season with Seattle and Detroit. He still wants to pitch, but has not been swayed by the offers by the Twins and Mariners thus far.
Obviously, it goes without saying that injuries and ineffectiveness could change things if Washburn remained available, but there’s nothing brewing right now.
The Rockies’ bullpen remains a fluid situation. O’Dowd said the plan is for left-hander Joe Beimel to work back-to-back games in Triple-A Colorado Springs and more than 3 outs in one appearance before he’s called up.
