Two Colorado Rockies minor leaguers have been charged with two counts each of first degree rape and first degree sex offense reports Clarke Morrison of the Asheville Citizen-Times. A judge told them they could face life in prison without parole. The players 23-year-old left-hander Michael Mason and 23-year-old right-hander Jesse Meaux are required to stay in Buncombe County pending further court orders. Both players have hired an attorney and Meaux was released on $100000 bond. The judge set an Aug. 23 court date for the two men. The incident involved one woman and occurred in the early morning hours on Saturday at the players' apartment. Both play for the Asheville Tourists Colorado's Low Class-A affiliate.

Jhoulys Chacin continued his breakout season. With all of the struggles the Colorado Rockies have had in the past six weeks, a few bright spots have popped through the cloudy skies. On Friday night in Pittsburgh, one of those bright spots continued shining. With contention out of the way, what has to happen for 2013 to be a positive season for the Colorado Rockies?

Juan Nicasio didn't have a great outing on Sunday for the Rockies.Ok, dreamers. Time to admit it. The Colorado Rockies aren't going to the playoffs. There will be no Rocktober in 2013. That run everyone has been waiting for isn't going to happen. If it does, frankly, it still might not be enough. The Colorado Rockies are skidding their way into August, and are headed in...

It's tough to be a fan of the Colorado Rockies

Do these guys really think the Rockies are still in the race?Wilin Rosario bounced into a double play to end the Colorado Rockies rally in the 8th inning on Saturday night. He did it trying to pull a ball off of the outside part of the plate. It was the same pitch that pitchers have been getting him out with for two months. The Rockies lost 5-2, continuing a road trip that has buried...

Roy Oswalt leaves simulated game after facing only two batters

Colorado Rockies' pitcher Roy Oswalt, who had a left hamstring strain on July 7, was forced to shut down a simulated game on Saturday  after pitching to only two batters.  As reported by Thomas Harding of MLB.com, ""When I first hurt it, they told me it would be a little while to get back -- it wasn't just a mild strain, It was a pretty significant ...

Rockies star Carlos Gonzalez appears bound for disabled list

Carlos Gonzalez quietly dressed in the corner of the clubhouse and shook his head. Another uncomfortable swing in his final at-bat Sunday dramatically increased the likelihood he will land on the disabled list before the New York Mets series. "I don't want to go on the DL. But I can't swing. I am just a slap hitter that's all I can do right now" said Gonzalez...

Chacin mows down Pirates as Rockies win 4-2 to halt losing skid

In the quiet of the Rockies' clubhouse Thursday night in Atlanta Troy Tulowitzki was ejected and dejected. He had been run from a game because of his repeated use of the word "no" to plate umpire Marvin Hudson. His burst of temper was poorly timed with the bench short but there were more than a few players who weren't bothered by his short fuse. The Rockies sleepwalked...

Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez could hit the DL with finger sprain

Carlos Gonzalez has been battling the finger sprain long enough that the Colorado Rockies have to make a decision.  Do they place him on the DL or do they acknowledge that he will be limited the rest of the season by the injury.  It looks like the team may choose the former. According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, Gonzalez re-aggravted his sprained finger this weekend and...

Rockies 4, Pirates 2

Jhoulys Chacin allowed one run on six hits over eight innings and the Colorado Rockies snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night. Chacin (10-5), who has won seven of his past nine decisions, stayed in the game after taking a sharp line drive off the bat of Starling Marte in the fifth inning. Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki had a...

Rockies pick up Jorge De La Rosa option

Jorge De La Rosa has missed a lot of time over the past couple years because of Tommy John surgery but has bounced back well in 2013. He’s looked like the pitcher he was becoming before the surgery was needed. Only difference in his game has been less strikeouts but he’s still inducing enough ground balls to make him perfect for pitching at Coors Field. Strangely enough he’s...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies – Game 110

Yesterday’s loss was not only frustrating it was really boring.  No flow, pure frustration, mixed with a touch of rage. That might be overstated, but when the Pirates collapsed last year a huge hallmark was their complete inability to beat bad teams. I’M NOT SAYING THEY ARE COLLAPSING. I guess playing up to good competition…

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies – Game 111

That’s the Buccos I love to see.  Getting that starting pitcher out of the game early.  That’s exactly how the Buccos have been successful all season, that’s the recipe for this offense. Now the Pirates get to go for the series win and they won’t even have to use a Sunday lineup.  Pedro Alvarez had…
