The Colorado Rockies are one of the many teams that have been connected to Chicago Cubs right-hander Matt Garza. However, it's still not clear if the Rockies will be buyers or sellers this summer, according to Jim Bowden of ESPN. The Rockies are currently sitting in third place in the National League West with an overall record of 46-50. They're 4.5 games behind the first-place Arizona Diamondbacks and 7.5 games out of the Wild-Card. While they're not clear-cut buyers entering the second half, they will have an opportunity to improve on their record prior to the July 31 trade deadline. Colorado's first three series out of the break are against the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers, a trio of teams that have combined to go 115-165 on the season. If Colorado is able to reach and surpass the .500 mark and chip into the D'backs' division lead, they could look to bolster their struggling rotation by adding an arm such as Garza. However, if they falter against some of the league's worst competition they could quickly turn into sellers. The Rockies have several intriguing players to offer contenders if they do become sellers. Bowden considers relievers Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle as the most likely to be dealt, while Michael Cuddyer is unlikely to be had unless Colorado is "blown away." Buyers or sellers: Colorado Rockies

At 46-50, it is hard to imagine that the Colorado Rockies would be seriously considering buying a the trade deadline, but thanks to the National League West being a collective disappointment, the Rockies find themselves just 4.5 games out of the division lead. For a franchise with memories of "Rocktober" still fresh in their minds, that gap seems almost inconsequential...

Rockies, O's win draft picks lottery

The Rockies, Orioles, Indians, Marlins, Royals and Brewers won picks after the first round of next year's draft in Major League Baseball's second annual competitive balance lottery. The lottery involved the 10 teams with the lowest revenue and 10 in the smallest markets and was six picks after the first round. A club's odds of winning the lottery were based on its winning...

Rockies Rumors: Colorado interested in Jesse Crain

It isn't known if the Rockies will be buyers or sellers, but it sounds like they will be the ones buying this time and not the ones selling. One of the positions the Rockies may look to improve as the deadline approaches is their bullpen, which is needing one more piece to the puzzle. It appears that they have their sights set on one reliever in particular. The Colorado Rockies...

Rockies won’t deal Cuddyer, believe they’re a contender

The Rockies enter the second half four games under .500, but at 4 1/2 games behind the National League West-leading D-backs, which has Rockies owner Dick Monfort believing the team is a contender. That assessment will color the team’s approach to the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, even though they tend not to make huge moves. The Rockies were 35-32 when shortstop Troy Tulowitzki...

Cardinals rumors: St. Louis not pursuing anything aggressively

The St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the best teams in baseball over the first half of the regular season. In fact, you could argue that the Cards are MLB's most well-rounded club at the moment. For this reason, it's not surprising to hear Jim Bowden of ESPN report that while St. Louis is reviewing its options, the team isn't "pursuing anything specifically or...

Trade Values: Justin Morneau

Jim Bowden of ESPN has some trade buzz from the All-Star week, and has the Pittsburgh Pirates included in a rumor. Unlike Bowden’s trade ideas, these are actual rumors based on what Bowden has heard. He says the Minnesota Twins are prepared to trade Justin Morneau, and has the Pirates as one of the teams rumored as a possible destination. He also lists the Yankees and Rays as possibilities...

Garza Likely Dealt Before Next Start, Sox Still In

According to ESPN's Jim Bowden, there's an "80 percent chance" that Cubs starter Matt Garza will be traded before his next start (due to be either next Monday or Tuesday). Bowden also claims that the Red Sox are one of the teams still in on Garza—along with the Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks. As we reported earlier, word is that Theo Epstein is looking...
