MLB Injury News:
The Rockies, who are contending in the NL West, appear unlikely to be sellers, right? Correct, but that isn't stopping other teams from poking around their players. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that teams "are watching the Rockies closely, viewing them as possible sellers and targeting All-Star right fielder Michael Cuddyer."
Rosenthal mentions that the Rangers and Pirates are looking for a right-handed hitter, like a Michael Cuddyer. He says that the Reds, Rays, Yankees and Giants could have interest, but I have a hard time seeing the Rockies trade a player like Michael Cuddyer to another NL West team.
If the Rockies were to trade Cuddyer, it would be a shocker. They are a contending team that is currently being hampered by injuries to Troy Tulowitzki and Dexter Fowler. Keep in mind that the Rockies are still in contention with those two hurt. Once they get them back, they could be a legitimate threat to win the NL West, if they stay healthy.
Cuddyer has been fantastic this year. He has been hitting for power, contact and not striking out very much. Also, he just got done with a 27 game hitting streak. While that is not record breaking, it is still very impressive. On the year, Cuddyer is hitting .338 with 15 home runs, 52 RBI's and 54 strikeouts in 69 games. If a team were to trade for Cuddyer, it would cost a pretty penny. The Rockies aren't going to give him up for cheap just because they may be potential sellers. On that note, it is extremely unlikely the Rockies are sellers, barring something drastic or unforeseen.
