Rockies Continue to Confuse, Acquire Wilton Lopez
In a vacuum, you could probably make a decent enough case in favor of exchanging Alex White for Wilton Lopez. As Jeff wrote last week, Lopez is the game’s most extreme high GB/low BB reliever, and this skillset allows him to be an effective late inning reliever. Lopez is a quality arm, and he can be a key piece of a good bullpen. Meanwhile, White has been pretty lousy during...

The Houston Astros have traded reliever Wilton Lopez and a player to be named to the Colorado Rockies for right-handers Alex White and Alex Gillingham.
The deal was announced Tuesday night and was the first trade at the winter meetings.

Lopez likely will serve as a setup man in front of Rockies closer Rafael Betancourt...

Centerfielder Dexter Fowler Rockies Available in Right Deal, Interested in Vance Worley?
More from Troy Renck of the Denver Post, and this time it relates directly to the Phillies. Rockies Can’t Afford to Trade Troy Tulowitzki
There’s no denying that when healthy, Troy Tulowitzki is one of the most complete players in baseball, let alone at a slim shortstop position. Since breaking into the majors in 2006, he’s finished in the top-10 in MVP voting three times, has won two gold gloves and two silver slugger awards. That’s a pretty rounded out trophy case he owns.
But 2012 veered off that course...
Q&A: Bo Porter, Managing the Analytic Astros
This past summer, Bo Porter — who then was the third-base coach for the Washington Nationals — sat down to discuss the philosophies he’d bring to a big-league managerial job. Earlier this week, he followed up on that interview, this time as manager of the Houston Astros.

Jim Deshaies is the new Cubs color commentator
After Bob Brenly left the Cubs for the Diamondbacks in October, Chicago had a vacancy in their booth next to veteran Len Kasper. We outlined some of the potential choices a couple of weeks ago, and of course, none of the finalists we listed got the job. Instead, the Cubs went with former long-time Astros color man Jim Deshaies as reported by Danny Knobler of CBS. Cubs fans seem...
