Mike Pelfrey Still Doesn’t Get It

PELFREY: Will it ever happen for him? Mike Pelfrey continues to tick me off. This time, it is hearing the news has been pitching with a high right ankle sprain during spring training. Pelfrey said he injured his ankle in the offseason and aggravated it the beginning of camp. There are several ways to look at this, none of them good for the Mets: If Pelfrey is injured, then he...

Lance Berkman accuses Bud Selig of extortion. America says duh all at once.

…now we all can’t talk until Lance Berkman says our name three times. In all seriousness, the Cardinals slugger had a few choice words for the way the commish handled the sale of the Houston Astros this offseason. EXTORTION! If you’ll recall, part of the agreement to push the sale through was for Houston, who has been in the National League since the 1960s, was to move to...

Santana brilliant in 4th Grapefruit League start; on pace for Opening Day

Yesterday afternoon, New York Mets starter Johan Santana tossed six brilliant innings allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out six against the St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.  Santana threw 69 pitches, 48 of which were strikes, with his fastball sitting at 88 mph; which was more than enough velocity to make his changeup effective, according to Adam...

Mets Card of the Week: 1999 Edgardo Alfonzo

1999 UPPER DECK RETRO EDGARDO ALFONZO I’m about 60% Irish, which means that I feel about 60% guilty for letting St. Patrick’s Day pass without acknowledging it in card form. So let this emerald-lidded shot of Edgardo Alfonzo on his 1999 Upper Deck Retro card serve that purpose. I got my own green Mets’ hat a year before this card was released. My wife and I had brought a...

Mets Q&A with Ed Leyro from Studious Metsimus

There are a ton of people who write about the Mets and I am happy to say that most of them seem to be good people, too. I guess it is not a huge surprise that the guys at the biggest sites – Cerrone and Baron at MetsBlog and Simon, Kannengeiser, Artus and crew over at Amazin’ Avenue – are top notch. But it seems that no matter what size Mets blog you run across, you will...

Collins Says Santana Took A Giant Step Forward

“There are some minor steps, there are some baby steps and there are some giant steps. And today was a giant step forward.” That’s what Mets manager Terry Collins had to say after watching Johan Santana battle against a Cardinals lineup featuring all their regulars and holding them to one run, an RBI single by Lance Berkman, in six innings of work. “Nobody’s come back...

Gary Carter ticket for game 8

@Mets ticket for Game 8 twitter.com/LeighJC_NYM/st… — Leigh Castergine (@LeighJC_NYM) March 22, 2012   Pretty cool if you ask me… I knew the Mets would do stuff like this this season. I’m sure for the 50th anniversary they will put a combination of Mets legends and current Mets like Ike Davis, David Wright, Johan Santana, and R.A. Dickey. The Mets are starting to get it...

MLB Preview – New York Mets

2011 Review: Let’s look for positives…Jose Reyes won the batting title (even though he sat out the final game of the season to preserve his small lead). Jason Isringhausen got his 300th save. Not too much else positive to report though. On the other hand, the negative summed up the season. Ace Johan Santana didn’t pitch at all. The Wilpons were tied to the Madoff ponzi scheme...

RotoWire 2012 New York Mets Preview

After a poor start left the Mets 5-13 on April 20, New York went 50-38 thereafter, and by July 29 the Mets were four games over .500 at 55-51. However, that's when the bottom dropped out - trades, injuries and some apathy set in as the Mets won just 22 of their final 56 games to wind up 77-85 and finish with a losing record for the third year in a row. Heading into 2012, finances...

Johnson's third spring homer came off Tyler Clippard in the sixth inning. Johnson had been competing with Jimmy Paredes for the third base job, but Paredes was optioned Friday morning to Triple...
