Yesterday R.A. Dickey was named one of three finalist for the NL Cy Young award.  The difference between Dickey and his counterparts in the race for the Cy Young crown (Clayton Kershaw and Gio Gonzalez), is that the 38-year-old knuckleballer faces an uncertain future beyond this season despite putting together an incredible season on the mound. The Mets have picked up Dickey’s $5 million option for 2013 and as of yesterday things seemed to be moving in the right direction as eluded to by Marc Craig of Newsday. #bbpBox_266325320712466432 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_266325320712466432 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Dickey says his contract talks have progressed with Mets. He feels the frqnchise is going the right direction. about 20 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @MarcCarig Marc Carig Today things seem far less certain as Joel Sherman of the New York Post and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports put out the following tweets: #bbpBox_266528631323512832 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_266528631323512832 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } #Mets clearly want to fully understand Dickey’s trade value, something they are not doing with Wright at these Meetings about 7 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @Joelsherman1 Joel Sherman #bbpBox_266592723119788032 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_266592723119788032 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Sources: #Mets showing little interest in signing Dickey to extension, discussing him in trades, as @Joelsherman1 reported. about 2 hours ago via Twitter for MacReplyRetweetFavorite @Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal I truly believe this is how the game is played.  Agents don’t want GM’s getting too comfortable with the fact that their client will be returning because it drives down their leverage in negotiations.  Similarly, clubs have to make it known that they will explore every option if a player isn’t reasonable in their demands. Photo by Michael G. Baron So the dance goes on and on and the rumors keep everyone’s feet moving.  I just hope when the music stops R.A. Dickey will still be a member  of the New York Mets or the team will have at least done something to make fans accept the fact that arguably the best pitcher in the National League last season won’t be on the mound for their team for 2013 and beyond.
