Because Christian Friedrich took a line drive off his leg, the Rockies are giving Jeremy Guthrie a start. It very well could be an audition for Colorado's four-man rotation, given the latest poor start by Josh Outman. Friedrich was hit in the right calf by a line drive off the bat of San Diego's Logan Forsythe in the first inning of his last start Saturday. Rather than have Friedrich, who stayed in the game and pitched five innings, come back as scheduled Wednesday, the Rockies will give him an extra day of rest and have Friedrich start at St. Louis on Thursday. That adjustment, in turn, will push Drew Pomeranz back from Thursday to Friday at Washington. With the extra day of rest, both Friedrich and Pomeranz will pitch on the fifth day. Guthrie will start in place of Friedrich on Wednesday, and manager Jim Tracy said Guthrie would not be under the same 75-pitch limit as those in the four-man rotation. Guthrie last started June 17 and has since made four relief appe...

Colorado Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez Should Be a Starter in the 2012 MLB All Star Game

Denver, CO – Despite the miserable year the Colorado Rockies are having, Carlos Gonzalez has performed at an all star level. Carlos was rewarded Sunday with a selection to the 2012 NL All Star team. Although chosen as a reserve, Gonzalez deserves a starting spot in the summer showcase. Every team in MLB gets a … Continue reading »

Colvin has found his stroke with Rockies

The Rockies got their fifth and final hit Tuesday with two out in the fourth inning. Their first hit was their biggest, a three-run homer with two out in the third by Tyler Colvin. The home run, Colvin's 10th of the season and second in two games at St. Louis, wiped out the Cardinals' 2-0 lead, built by Matt Holliday's two-run homer in the first, and gave the Rockies...

Dugout Digest - so, about this new Rockies rotation...

I'm sure we're all in agreement at this point in time that Rockies manager Jim Tracy is the worst, right? We here at TOC can't say nearly enough awful things about his new method of handling the Rockies rotation, and last night, pretty much the worst case scenario erupted for the Rockies. Starter Christian Friedrich had completed five innings and thrown 74 pitches...
