KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Kansas City Royals are close to a 3.55 million agreement with Indiana State left-hander Sean Manaea, whom they chose with the first pick in the competitive balance portion for the draft. The Royals have scheduled a news conference for Friday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium that will include Manaea, Royals general manager Dayton Moore and Manaea's adviser, Scott Boras. Baseball America first reported that a deal was imminent. Manaea was considered a first-round talent but slipped to the Royals at No. 34 overall in part due to a hip injury that will require surgery. Royals team physician Dr. Vincent Key said earlier this month that Manaea should be ready by spring training next season. Manaea was 5-4 with a 1.47 ERA for the Sycamores this past season.

Getz gone, but Yost stops short of giving 2B job to Johnson

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Well, at least one of the major gripes from Royals fans has been settled. Second baseman Chris Getz was shipped out to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday, clearing room for the return of outfielder Jarrod Dyson. Getz, who along with Jeff Francoeur had become a Twitter punching bag this season, was somewhat of a logical choice to be sent out because he still had minor...

Royals continue to wage the 'War on Walks'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Among Royals fans and bloggers, it is a phenomenon known as the Royals' "War on Walks." For years now, decades even, the Royals have been one of the worst teams in baseball at drawing bases on balls. In fact, the last time the Royals finished in the top half of the American League in walks was 1989. Far more common has been the Royals finishing...

Orlando Calixte could be deadline trade chip

by John Viril— Coming into the 2013 season, Baseball America rated 21-year-old SS Orlando Calixte the 9th best prospect in the Kansas City system. Promoted to AA NW Arkansas to begin 2013, Calixte struggled early in the season. He hit .198/.244/.296 for a paltry .540 OPS in April. Since that rough beginning, Orlando Calixte has progressively improved the last two months. He hit...

Royals activate Dyson, send Getz to Omaha

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Kansas City Royals created a logjam in the outfield and shortage of depth across the infield Saturday when they activated outfielder Jarrod Dyson from the disabled list and sent second baseman Chris Getz to Triple-A Omaha. The Royals had until Tuesday to decide what to do with Dyson, a speedy outfielder who had been on the DL since sustaining a high right...

Royals activate OF Dyson, send Getz to Triple-A

The Kansas City Royals activated outfielder Jarrod Dyson from the disabled list and optioned second baseman Chris Getz to Triple-A Omaha before Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Dyson had been on the DL since sustaining a high right ankle sprain May 15, when he attempted to climb the outfield wall in Los Angeles and steal a homer from the Angels' Mike Trout...

Bruce Chen, Saber-Savvy Southpaw

Bruce Chen isn’t getting younger. The journeyman left-hander — currently with the Kansas City Royals — celebrated his 36th birthday yesterday. Since signing out of Panama, in 1993, he has made 365 big-league appearances. He has played for 10 teams. Chen has gotten smarter as he’s gotten older. He has long survived on guile, and in recent years, he’s developed an appreciation...

Lately the Royals offense is more lucky than good

After being ten games below .500 at one point, the Kansas City Royals made it to the .500 mark early this week before losing two in a row to the Cleveland Indians, falling to a 34-36 record. After the debacle of May, it’s good the see the Royals playing better baseball. But they’re not playing good enough to contend for the A. L. Central, much less be a playoff contending team...

Preview: Davis leads Royals against White Sox at Kauffman

(AP) -- With the offense of the Kansas City Royals already struggling, the last thing they need is for their pitching to break down. After being routed in the series opener, the Royals try to avoid a fourth consecutive loss Saturday against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Kansas City (34-37) has totaled nine runs in the last four games, including seven during the three-game skid...

Preview: Royals open three-game set with White Sox at Kauffman

(AP) -- The last thing the Chicago White Sox need right now is a matchup with Kansas City Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie. The right-hander has completely shut down Chicago since being acquired by the Royals last summer, and he'll look to add to the visiting White Sox's woes in the opener of a three-game series Friday night. Guthrie came to Kansas City in a deal for left...

The White Sox nightmare road trip concludes this weekend with a trip to one of their favorite Houses of Horror, Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City for a three game set with the Royals.  The Sox are 1-6 on the trip after being swept in Minnesota by the Twins and have lost seven of their last eight total. The Royals are coming home after a 4-3 road trip to Tampa Bay and Cleveland...
