Found July 18, 2012 on Pro Sports Daily:
Jonathan Sanchez, the primary player involved in the trade that sent Melky Cabrera to the Giants, has done little for the Kansas City Royals, so the Royals essentially replaced him on the roster with the minor-league player acquired in the Cabrera trade -- Ryan Verdugo. Verdugo was scheduled to make his major-league debut Tuesday. Sanchez has been designated for assignment after another disappointing outing on Monday, when he gave up five runs before retiring a Mariners batter and yielded seven runs in 1 1/3 innings. Sanchez is 1-6 with a 7.76 ERA in 12 starts, and he's winless in 11 starts after an April 8 victory over the Angels. Meanwhile, Cabrera was a starter in the All-Star Game, so the trade does not look good at the moment. But the throw-in in the trade was Verdugo, a left-hander who was recalled from Class AAA Omaha Tuesday. He was 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA with Omaha and was selected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team. He was scheduled to start Tuesday ni...

Royals had no choice but to release Sanchez

Left-hander Jonathan Sanchez's nightmarish tenure with the Royals finally ended Tuesday, not long after a cascade of boos rained down on him in his last start Monday, boos that rivaled in intensity those delivered at Kauffman Stadium toward Robinson Cano at the Home Run Derby. The Royals designated Sanchez for assignment, less than 24 hours after he was rocked for seven runs...

What Went Wrong With Jonathan Sanchez

On Tuesday afternoon, the Kansas City Royals designated left-handed starter Jonathan Sanchez for assignment. The Royals, of course, acquired Sanchez and right-handed pitcher Ryan Verdugo from the San Francisco Giants over the winter, in exchange for Melky Cabrera. At the time, the trade came in for criticism and praise on both sides, which suggested it was a fair deal. Obviously...

Royals ready to admit Sanchez deal was a flop

The trade -- outfielder Melky Cabrera to the San Francisco Giants for left-hander Jonathan Sanchez and minor league lefty Ryan Verdugo -- seemingly made sense for the Kansas City Royals when it was announced last Nov. 7. Sure, Cabrera was coming off a career year in which he batted .305 with 44 doubles and 201 hits. However, the Royals needed starting pitching, and Sanchez had...

Sanchez struggles early in Royals loss

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- One week ago, Kauffman Stadium was filled with boos intended to support the Royals' hometown guy. On Monday night, the hometown guy was the recipient. Jonathan Sanchez allowed the first five Seattle batters he faced to score and gave up seven runs before getting yanked in the second inning. The Mariners took advantage of the rare offensive outburst and...

Royals DFA Jonathan Sanchez

Well then, I bet no one would have imagined in April that this would happen. The Kansas City Royals have designated starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez for assignment. The Royals have also recalled Ryan Verdugo and Vin Mazzaro, and will start Verdugo tonight in Kansas City against the Mariners. Kansas City traded for Sanchez this offseason, dealing Melky Cabrera to the San Francisco...

Melky Cabrera Asking to Get Drilled If He Keeps Up Recent WWE Style Antics

Maybe Melky Cabrera should take Monday night off and head on over to the Scottrade Center in St. Louis for WWE Raw's 1,000th episode. He'd fit right in. The reigning All-Star Game MVP has been crotch-chopping and double-dog daring his way onto the Braves' doo-doo list in recent games, which could -- and perhaps should -- earn him a couple of inside fastballs whenever...

Melky Cabrera Gives Braves fans the DX Suck It! (Video)

Melky Cabrera gave some Atlanta Braves fans payback when he did the DX suck it to them after being taunted.  Seriously didn't want to post this being a huge Braves fan, but I'm also a huge fan of D-X so I had to respect Melky for pulling this out.  The video is below if you missed it. Check out our Home Page for more stories and follow us on Twitter and Facebook

Chipper Jones calls out Melky Cabrera for crotch chopping again

Melky Cabrera antagonized Braves fans for the second day in a row, and this time Chipper Jones called him out for his actions. During the third inning of Tuesday’s series opener between the Braves and Giants, Cabrera did a “suck it” crotch chop to the Braves fans after making a catch. Cabrera repeated the gesture at least twice during the Giants’ 9-4 win on Wednesday....

SF Giants Rumors: Zito Dominates, Posey’s Big Night, Sanchez Injury, EX-Giant DFA

Everyone expected the San Francisco Giants to run into a brick wall when they faced the smoking hot Braves. Instead Barry Zito tossed 7 innings of 3 hit ball and not allowing a single run. In 5 career starts at Turner Field, Zito is 4-0 with a 1.63 ERA.   Buster Posey had a BIG night! Posey collected 3 hits and 5 RBI. One of his hits was a bases loaded double that cleared the bases...

Lester looking for mojo in second half

Start 'Em Anibal Sanchez (@CHC, @PIT) After flaunting a 2.56 ERA at the end of May, Sanchez has been hit with a dose of reality, getting rocked for 30 runs in his past seven outings, five of which have resulted in losses for the Marlins. Sanchez's upcoming slate, however, should provide a platform to bounce back, taking on middling offenses in the Pirates and Cubbies...

Mariners-Royals Preview

(AP) -- The Seattle Mariners' offense has been quite a mystery over the last week, piling up runs one game and failing to produce the next. The biggest unknown for the Mariners' game in Kansas City on Tuesday night, however, is the Royals' stating pitcher. Seattle (38-53) has split its last six games, combining for 23 runs in the wins while scoring three in the defeats...

3 Up and 3 Down

It is time for my weekly three up and three down column.  The All Star game was completed last Tuesday with the National League blowing out the American League 8-0.  Melky Cabrera won the MVP of the All Star Game.  As always you can reach me through facebook, twitter @gmarchesej, comment under this article or email me at gmarchesej@aol.com.  Thanks for reading as always and I...

Podcast Episode 14: Mid-Season Musings

I put this episode together after the Yankees opened the second half of the 2012 season by taking 2 out of 3 against the Angels. Topics include the aftermath of Robinson Cano's horrible Home Run Derby, disappointing facts about Melky Cabrera, my disdain for Paul O'Neill (Yes, you read that right.) and Darnell McDonald's dred locs. I close things out by talking about my...

SF Giants Rumors: Bullpen Arms, Welcome Back, Down On The Farm

Photo Courtesy of Jesse Montellano Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com says it’s not a surprise that the San Francisco Giants are looking for bullpen help. Rosenthal says their bullpen is perceived as a strength, but their combined strikeout rate (Giants relievers) is the third-lowest in the NL.   Welcome Back All Star outfielder Melky Cabrera will rejoin the Giants today in Atlanta...
