Fox Sports Kansas City:
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals have extended a qualifying offer to right-hander Ervin Santana, which means they would receive a compensatory draft pick if the free agent signs elsewhere.
The qualifying offer this year was 14.1 million. Players have until Nov. 11 to accept.
The Royals have expressed hope that they can bring back Santana, but he's coming off a stellar season in which he went 9-10 with a career-best 3.24 ERA. His performance in helping the Royals to an 86-76 record, their best since 1989, could price him out of their market.
The Royals also reinstated right-hander Felipe Paulino from the 60-day disabled list on Monday. Paulino had Tommy John surgery in 2012 and made seven rehab starts in the minor leagues this past season.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Right-hander Greg Holland, who broke the Royals' single-season record for saves, was the clear choice for the Royals' Bruce Price pitcher of the year award Monday, announced by the Kansas City chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).
Holland saved 47 games, breaking the previous Royals' mark of 45 held by Royals Hall of Famers...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Perhaps no one responded more positively to the Royals' decision to bring in George Brett and Pedro Grifol as the team's new hitting coaches in late May than first baseman Eric Hosmer, who resurrected his career in 2013.
And with that resurrection came another honor. Hosmer, who also won his first Gold Glove last week, on Tuesday was named the Les Milgram...
The Kansas City Royals were pleased with the numbers Hunter Dozier put up this summer. The 22-year-old infielder hit .308/.397/.495 between rookie-level Idaho Falls and Low-A Lexington. Given that many considered Dozier an overdraft, the Royals also likely were relieved.
First-year stats aren’t all that meaningful, but Dozier’s performance helped validate the decision to take...

In an effort to bolster their starting rotation prior to the 2013 campaign, the Minnesota Twins held discussions with the Los Angeles Angels involving Ervin Santana. Given the team’s interest a year ago, there has been speculation that the Twins would once again pursue Santana, who is now a free agent. Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN added coal to that fire yesterday, reporting the...

A fan is suing the Kansas City Royals after being injured when he was hit by a hot dog thrown into the stands by the team’s mascot. According to Fox News, John Coomer of Overland Park, Kan is seeking damages from the club after a 4-ounce, foil wrapped hot dog was thrown into the stands striking him in the eye. As a result Coomer had to have two eye surgeries, one to repair a detached...
“Well I guess I was wrong I just don’t belong/but then I’ve been there before, everything is alright/I’ll just say goodnight and I’ll show myself to the door/Hey I didn’t mean to cause a big scene just wait ’til I finish this glass/Then, sweet little lady I’ll head back to the bar (haha) and you can kiss my a**.”- Garth Brooks, “Friends in Low Places”

It's time for some Monday afternoon free agency rumors; the Kansas City Royals are apparently pursuing free agent starting pitcher Tim Hudson, reports Mark Bowman of MLB.com.
Bowman writes that the Royals and the Cleveland Indians have shown the most interest in the starting pitcher, although the Atlanta Braves have offered Hudson a one-year contract. Hudson and his agent, however...
