The Kansas City Royals will not win the American League Central this year. They won't even come close. However, Kansas City will have a major say on whether the Detroit Tigers or Chicago White Sox win the division. The Royals wrap up a three-game series Wednesday against the White Sox. They have seven games left with the Tigers, including the final three games of the season at Kauffman Stadium. If the White Sox fail to hold off the Tigers, they could blame the Royals. For whatever reason, they have not fared well against Kansas City this season, losing 11 of 17. "There is no answer for that," Royals manager Ned Yost said of his club's record against the White Sox. "We've played good against these guys. I don't have an answer for it outside of we've just played good games against them." The Royals beat White Sox ace Chris Sale 3-0 on Wednesday night. Three of Sale's seven losses this season are against Kansas City. The Royals wo...

Odorizzi set for Sunday debut with Moore behind plate

The Kansas City Royals have finally set a date for their prized pitching prospect's major league debut. It'll probably be the first game for a new catcher, too. Jake Odorizzi will start Sunday against the Cleveland Indians. Look for Adam Moore to catch Odorizzi while making his own Royals debut, though not his big-league debut. The Royals claimed Moore off the waiver...

Mendoza's illness bumps Royals' other starters forward

Luis Mendoza has strep throat, which has led the Kansas City Royals to revise their rotation for the final two games of the series against the Chicago White Sox. Mendoza was scheduled to start Wednesday, but he has been scratched. "He was really sick," manager Ned Yost said Tuesday before the Royals dropped the series opener to Chicago, 3-2. "I sent him to the...

Royals 3, White Sox 0

Bruce Chen pitched into the seventh inning, Alex Gordon hit a two-run double and the Kansas City Royals beat the AL Central-leading White Sox 3-0 on Wednesday night to snap Chicago's five-game winning streak. Billy Butler hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning, but that was it until Gordon connected off Chris Sale (17-7) with two outs in the seventh. Left fielder Dayan Viciedo...

Francoeur keeps focus on controllable factors

KANSAS CITY, MO - Royals outfielder Jeff Francoeur knows exactly what's coming his way next spring: A young stud named Wil Myers, the Royals' top outfield prospect and arguably baseball's top prospect. And Francoeur, coming off a terrible year (.236, 13 homers, 41 RBIs), knows he will be in for a fight for his job. That doesn't seem to bother him. No, not at all...

Royals shut out White Sox 3-0

(AP) -- Bruce Chen pitched into the seventh inning, Alex Gordon hit a two-run double and the Kansas City Royals beat the AL Central-leading White Sox 3-0 on Wednesday night to snap Chicago's five-game winning streak. Series Preview: Indians at Royals 9/21-23

Just like the series against the Twins, this upcoming series will be almost completely meaningless. While the Indians do have some player evaluations to do for next year, there is little to be learned in series against teams in the same situation as the Indians. Both the Twins and Royals are also evaluating young talent, making these games more like the AAA games that most of these...

White Sox- Royals Preview

(AP) -- The Kansas City Royals continue to vex the White Sox and another matchup with Jeremy Guthrie doesn't bode well for Chicago's chances of ending the frustrating season series on a high note either. Guthrie will try to extend a dominant run against the White Sox when these teams close a three-game series Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium. A 3-0 loss Wednesday dropped...

Jeremy Guthrie’s strange day

by John Viril— Jeremy Guthrie’s September 15 start against the Los Angeles Angels was one of the oddest performances of his career. Guthrie, an extreme fly-ball pitcher throughout his career, completely changed his stripes for that one day. Instead of inducing fly balls, Guthrie became an extreme ground ball pitcher. Of 27 balls in play on this most odd of days, 18 were ground...

Royals come back to top White Sox

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Alex Rios was thrown out at the plate, Alexei Ramirez was picked off third base and the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox again failed to come up with a clutch hit in a 4-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. Eric Hosmer singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning. The White Sox stayed two games ahead of Detroit, which...

Watching Chris Sale is just painful

by John Viril— Yeah, I know this isn’t really much of a “story”. Really, it’s more an ode to frustration. You can tell simply from the title. And, I darn well know that Royals “Ace” Bruce Chen beat Sale today. But, everyone knows that doesn’t really mean anything with regard to their relative abilities. We fans would get group hernias jumping for joy if we could replace...
