Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain has been placed on the disabled list with a left groin strain, taking him out of the lineup as the team returns to Kansas City for its home opener. Cain hurt the groin when he bumped into the wall while chasing a flyball off the bat of Oakland's Daric Barton in the second inning of a 3-0 victory Tuesday night. Cain was held out of the lineup Wednesday and placed on the DL on Thursday. Kansas City plays its home opener Friday against the Cleveland Indians. Cain took over in centerfield for Melky Cabrera, who was traded to San Francisco in the offseason. Cain had two hits in 15 at-bats and struck out five times to start the season. Jarrod Dyson will be recalled from Triple-A Omaha to take Cain's place.

Jonathan Broxton Blows Save by Hitting Consecutive Batters

The Kansas City Royals took a chance on Jonathan Broxton this offseason. The mammoth, hard-throwing right-handed reliever lost his spot as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ closer last season because of how shaky he was in clutch situations. But the Royals took a flyer on him and were hoping he could revive his career. With Joakim Soria, the team’s All-Star closer, out for the season...

Danny Duffy Fans 8 In Royals Win

Ok, I'm not going to lie... I went to bed at the rain delay. Yes, I know the game was nearly over, but I just wanted to lay in bed and catch up on the new season of "The Killing". Awesome show, by the way... and the game never restarted, so I dodn't miss anything as the Royals won 3-0 in the rain-shortened game. My early bow-out aside, Danny Duffy kept the streak...

Royals must improve offense to compete in AL

Friday's Royals' opener obviously was lost early when center fielder Jarrod Dyson misplayed a fly ball with two outs, allowing the Indians to eventually come up with four additional runs during a seven-run, punch-in-the-gut first inning. But here's the thing: If the Royals are going to hang around in the American League Central throughout this summer, they are going...

Royals' Opening Day bruises will heal

You know what? Someday, you'll look back on Friday and laugh. Or cry. That's the trouble with Opening Day. It's a holiday of hindsight. "No, obviously not the way we wanted to open up at home for our fans," Royals manager Ned Yost said after an 8-3 loss to Cleveland at Kauffman Stadium. "Just got away from us quick." Monet couldn't have painted...

The Royals are at .500 and head back to Kansas City

It’s almost a week into the 2012 season for the Kansas City Royals. After taking two out of three from the Los Angeles Angels and one out of three from the Oakland A’s, the Royals are showing some promise, but there’s still a ways to go. The anticipated weak link of the Royals, the starting rotation, is doing well. In two starts against the Angels and the A’s, Bruce Chen...

Royals head home for reset after 3-3 road trip

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) An encouraging road trip to start the season ended in most discouraging fashion for the Kansas City Royals. Now, they return home for a reset of sorts. Kansas City plays the Cleveland Indians on Friday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals took two of three from the Los Angeles Angels last weekend, and started out well against the Oakland Athletics before...

Royals' 'weak link' does heaving lifting

Dont look now, but The Weak Link is 3-1 with a 1.85 ERA. In 34 innings, The Weak Link has allowed just 22 hits and struck out 25. Thanks largely to The Weak Link, the Kansas City Royals hit their home opener Friday with the lowest team ERA (2.39) in the American League. Everybody in the clubhouse had faith in them, that they were going to do a good job, Royals reliever Aaron Crow...

Who's the pizza delivery guy in right field?

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Pizza delivery, courtesy of Jeff Francoeur. The Kansas City Royals' right fielder had 20 personal pizzas delivered Wednesday to Oakland Athletics fans in section 149. The gesture came a day after the second annual "Bacon Tuesday," as it has become known. Last year, Francoeur tossed a ball wrapped in a 100 bill into the elevated seats above his...

Friday Tribe Thoughts: Week 1 Panic and Royals Weekend Preview

A lot has happened in the eight days since I found myself downtown on Opening Day, but perhaps most importantly, the Indians have opened the season with a decidedly Wedgian record of 1-4. As we prepare fo our weekend tilt with the Royals, let’s quick hit some stories. Is it too early to panic?  Of course it is.  Don’t be silly.  But we also shouldn’t fool ourselves about...
