Boston Red Sox
Kansas City Royals
BOSTON (AP) Lorenzo Cain walked with two outs and the bases loaded in the 10th inning to give Kansas City a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Sunday and complete the Royals' sweep of a day-night doubleheader.
Ervin Santana (2-1) pitched seven strong innings in the opener, when Kansas City won 4-2. Kelvin Herrera (2-2) got the win in the night game, a makeup of the one postponed on Friday night because of the city-wide lockdown during the hunt for the Boston Marathon bombers.
Alex Gordon had three hits in the second game, including a single with one out in the 10th. Alcides Escobar walked and, after Billy Butler struck out, Eric Hosmer reached on an infield single - his fourth hit of the day.
Andrew Miller (0-1) walked Cain on four pitches to bring home Gordon, who scored his third run of the game.
Herrera allowed one hit and one walk, striking out three in two innings.
It was a disappointing ending to an emotional weekend for the Red Sox, who returned on Thursday night...
BEST OF MAXIM
A number of athletes have used their equipment to pay their respects to the victims of this past week’s tragic events. On Sunday, Jonny Gomes will use his bat to pay homage. Will Middlebrooks tweeted a photo prior to the first game of the Red Sox’ doubleheader against the Royals. It’s supposedly of the lumber that Gomes will use. The bat features the names of the four people...

”This is our f****** city, were his words exactly, with something like …”and nobody is going to dictate our ????. stay strong.”… Sorry, David Ortiz got a heavy accent, ya know. Watch:
David Ortiz is set to make his return for the Boston Red Sox following an eight-month layoff.
Ortiz was in the batting order to hit cleanup and be the designated hitter in Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
The 37-year-old was activated from the disabled list Friday. Ortiz injured his right Achilles tendon running the bases on July 17 and appeared just once in...

I started writing some nonsense about how the Sox 4-3 victory over the Royals this afternoon was symbolic of the city of Boston in the wake of the Marathon tragedy. 'Never give up' and all that. But America's pastime is meant to be a reprieve from all of that. As a wrote this morning, this game was a great way to clear our minds of this...

After starting Saturday’s return to Boston with an emotional pregame ceremony punctuated by a Big Papi F-bomb,…
The Boston Red Sox had quite the emotional week this past week, but continued to play red hot baseball. The team has won 5 out of 6 games and are playing their second game of the double header against Kansas City as I write this. The team has been lead by excellent pitching. This coming week the Red Sox will play every game at Fenway, continuing a 10 game home stand. Here is the...
This is just cool. And we’re all baseball fans, so this should hit home no matter what team or city you root for. After a draining week following the Boston Marathon bombing, the Red Sox held a riveting ceremony. Here’s some of it, courtesy of Deadspin and NESN.
RED SOX PRE GAME CEREMONY
David Ortiz did what a lot of Bostonians thought and felt over the last five days...
The words were simple and very effective...
Amen, Big Papi...
Challenge: Don't laugh when David Ortiz tells terrorists that "This is our ******* city."

Coming off a frustrating weekend that saw that Red Sox drop two out of three from the Kansas City Royals, the Sox look to rebound with an upcoming three game series with the Oakland Athletics beginning on Monday night. Boston struggled last season vs. the Athletics by going only 1-8 against them, which included the Red Sox dropping two out of three at Fenway Park last April 30...
