SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Juan Nicasio pitched out of trouble in much of his five-inning outing, allowing only Mike Moustakas' home run and leading the Colorado Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.
Nicasio, who finished the past two seasons on the disabled list, threw 46 strikes in 80 pitches, walking three and striking out four. He gave up three hits and pitched out of jams in the fourth and fifth innings with two runners on and one out.
Yorvit Torrealba and D.J. LeMahieu had run-scoring singles in the Rockies' three-run fifth inning. The other run scored on two-time Gold Glove left fielder Alex Gordon's throwing error.
Jeremy Guthrie, who started last season 3-9 with a 6.35 ERA with the Rockies before being traded July 20 to the Royals, allowed four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and a walk in six innings.

In the This Is My Nightmare series, we'll take a look at what the absolute worst case scenario for each team would be in 2013. Think of it as the negative complement to our You May Say I'm A Dreamer series that we'll be running during our preview series.
A nightmare season for the Rockies is something that seems incredibly easy to imagine. After all, a lot of the...
Here's the 2013 Colorado Rockies in a nutshell: Tulowitzki, Gonzalez, Fowler, Rosario, the decaying corpse of Todd Helton, and a random sample of pitchers that may or may not struggle in 2013 and beyond. It's a pretty solid core of players, but there are still plenty of question marks on the team.
My x-factor for the Colorado Rockies in 2013 in Drew Pomeranz.
Left-hander Will Smith and rookie right-hander Yorando Ventura, candidates for Kansas City's final rotation slot, were among seven cuts made by the Royals before Monday night's game against the Texas Rangers.
Smith, 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA while holding opponents to a .179 batting average in four outings, was optioned to Triple-A Omaha. Ventura, a non-roster invitee who has...
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- Mike Moustakas keeps hitting home runs and the Kansas City Royals keep winning.
Moustakas went 3 for 3 and homered for the second consecutive day to help Kansas City beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-2 on Wednesday.
The Royals lead the Cactus League with an 18-6 record.
"I'm just seeing the ball good right now," Moustakas said. "It's...
We're now entering the final week of season previews here at TOC...hard to believe, huh? Anyway, this week, we'll be looking at the NL West, and we're just 13 days away from the season kicking off on Sunday night between the Astros and Rangers. It's so close, I can smell it. Today's featured team is the Rockies, who didn't do a whole lot of anything this winter...

The whole process surrounding MLB teams and how they construct their team-specific Hall of Fame tends to be pretty arcane and arbitrary, but the Kansas City Royals look to have taken that to a whole new level with their voting process for their 2013 class. Today, they posted the Royals Hall of Fame ballot online so fans could vote on it via Twitter. As you might expect, things have...
Jorge De La Rosa is happy again.
''I'm always happy when I start throwing baseballs again,'' the Colorado pitcher said.
While De La Rosa wasn't pleased that the Rockies lost 4-3 to Cincinnati Monday night at Salt River Fields the big-picture outlook on the upcoming season give him reason to smile.
De La Rosa missed most of the past two seasons after tearing...
